But I also recognize it's too repetitive, so I turned it off after a while, and i'm now listening my own playlists.
It's almost like people have their own taste in music or something.
I'll have to add my own music to the game. I̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶d̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶y̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ ̶s̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶o̶l̶d̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶,̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶r̶t̶s̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ , so maybe I'll just run winamp while I play and give myself a little background music... like as if I had a CD player in that baby.
The game itself is pretty fun though, it's a lot simpler than my usual space game preferences but that's not exactly a bad thing. This, I can pick up and play, Elite Dangerous or X3 are a bit more of a mental investment. Definitely will keep palying this one, though, because aside from the music I don't have any REAL complaints. Not yet anyway.
What is WRONG with people these days?!
Actually, I have some...
The main is the lack of strategy in fights. This make the gameplay very redundant, as it is basically a naval battle, but with very poor choices in tactical approaches.
So it's kind of hack'n'slash, "no brain" game once you understand the pros & cons of the ships (and this doesn't take much time...), and assuming that itemization is only a linear "buy-the-next-one".
It's fun ! Indeed. But so redundant, so poor in tactical choices, that it may cause kind of overdose quite quickly.
And so the repetitive soundtrack doesn't help...
I'm just trying Starpoint Gemini 2 actually, and if the gameplay is clearly "heavier", and the whole game slower, it is also far richer.
There are plenty of greate atmospheric songs out there. Maybe some of those will suit you better.
EDIT: Fun fact-my unofficial Rebel Galaxy playlist over on Spotify is now at 3,018 subs! Woo hoo! https://open.spotify.com/user/1211204907/playlist/3pNqrKSsoZyQ9u5BhLkBNc
I have a feeling I've already nearly mastered that aspect of the game (and I'm still flying Rasputin...). It's too bad, because there's some potential here. It's mechanics are fun, but I can see a lot of space for depth with such a combat system.
I've been looking at Starpoint Gemini too, and it looks interesting, though I'm not sure which to get yet... I suppose maybe I should just go for the newest.
Well, this is fun for now, but I can see boredom on the horizon. Guess I'll have to play this one in spurts.
Starpoint Gemini 2 seems to be a more consistant (and more pleasing to the eye) version of SG1, so there's no need to play SG1, apparently.
What i could say after a few hours on SG2 is that it reminds me games like "Freelancer" far more than Rebel Galaxy.
Gameplay is rich, but it's not piloting sim like Elite Dangerous, nor a management game like the X licence.
But it's also not as "arcade" as Rebel Galaxy : itemization of ships is more complex, there are skills and perks to invest in, a lot of different ships to choose, cloaking etc...
The game seems to be a good sandbox, with good "space sim" feelings, lot of things to do.
It's clearly a bit more austere than RG, also more classic as space opera, but finally it's more interesting, and more my cup of tea.
I really enjoyed Rebel Galaxy, specially the identity developpers tried to put in, but I bought it beacause I read it was like Freelancer, and it's not (by far...).
Still looking to the worthy successor of Freelancer...
For upgrades, certain ones are just "buy the next one" like upgrading armor, but they do offer equipment that has differing stats depending on what your preferences are. For instance, there's a shield type that has a large capacity but a slow recharge rate, and there's also 3 types of boosters; balanced, high speed with slow acceleration and longer thrust time, and high acceleration with a shorter thrust time. Ships are a little less straightforward after a while. You're obviously going to have to upgrade from your starter ship to something bigger since the starter ship is kinda bad.
As for the combat, while it is really simple, it's nice to have a space game that doesn't try to be complicated and instead be simple. I've seen vids of Elite and Star Citizen, and they're both trying to simulate space in a way, but Elite just ends up being Euro Truck Simulator in space with lasers. Dunno about Star Citizen since it doesn't really have a demo up yet, but from what I've seen, it's likely going to have less of the ETS feel to it with how it has ground sections to it as well.
Besides, the weapons are a bit unbalanced : mining lasers overtop quite everything else, missiles can be easily replaced by a less binding weapon etc. the result is most of players choosing mining lasers.
True, this is a good point for the game : player can choose ships according to their feeling.
But precisely : because itemization is obviously too linear, and quite unbalanced, player shoud have a lot of ships to choose between, with variety in the possibilities of each.
It's so true ! I bought Rebel Galaxy for this reason exactly. But I think a "simple" gameplay should be balanced by something else : variety in the missions, or intensive combat feelings, or great scenario, or tons of loot, etc...
Actually, I think Rebel Galaxy is a bit narrow, with plenty of good ideas, but not enough to feed them.
Freelancer is definitely the dream model, regarding this balance between arcade gameplay and addictive feelings.
(I hope I was clear, i'm still working my English ... Steam forums are a great training place >_< )
