Perhaps I'm the only one...
Am I maybe the only one who dislikes this game's soundtrack? Just noticed, scrolling through the internets, that everyone is crazy about it, almost like they didn't grow up listening to country / countryrock the same way I did.

Haha... I don't know, when I hear the same lyrics kick in in the same situations all the time, and the same initial guitar chords, I start to feel like I've got that guy who listens to popular music (well, it's popular stuff where I live) like it's the best thing ever and he plays the same damn songs on repeat, in the room with me.

-furthermore, it seems like he assumes I appreciate that he restarts the song every time anything happens in my game, maybe because he feels like he's part of the game, but I've actually been considering asking him to leave and making up some fake plan that I have to go do so I don't have to feel as bad about telling someone who WAS my friend to get out of my house!!! So, I give him a ride home, because I'm a nice guy, and he switches the radio on and turns it to AM! I kick him out onto the street and start driving away. I back over him once he lowers his guard - killing him.

It's kinda like that.

I don't think it's the worst thing ever, but I think that I've heard some of this music far too many times in my life to enjoy it's presence in the game. I don't mind the southern / western vibe of the game, but I think the music is a little too much for me. Perhaps if it didn't come complete with the lyrics every time...

I feel like I'm driving a ford or a chevy through the stars. I guess I should be thankful that it's not actually country music, and only borderline countryrock.

agreed. it's way too repetitive.

NO, I was beginning to think I was the only one who hates this games music, Thankfully it allows to pick our own music stored on our Rigs.

I don't "dislike" it, because it's a good and original choice for a space roaming game, that have most of time ambiant-electro soundtracks, with poor identity.

But I also recognize it's too repetitive, so I turned it off after a while, and i'm now listening my own playlists.

it's like one country/rock song per scene-type... so you'd hear the same 3-4min song while you're warping around the systems. it's a terrible choice because you're on that same scene-type for roughly 80-90% of gameplay... and it's the same song with the same lyrics! after you've heard the song on repeat 5x, your sanity starts to fray.

The music is not so bad, it is the profanity in some of the vocals I don't care for. I turned the music way down after just a couple of hours.

I really like the music, but in the time since I found the game (not long before release), I've seen about half a dozen threads about people who don't like it.

It's almost like people have their own taste in music or something.

I think the devs knew that and added custom music :D

I'm glad to see it's not just me being my picky self here. I have hardly played this game so far, I'm still flying the Rasputin, but I've already begun to get sick of hearing that cruising song, at least. I've heard a few others, and while they don't give me a knee-jerk reaction like say... hearing rap might, they do go from "creating atmosphere" to obnoxious really quick.

I'll have to add my own music to the game. I̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶d̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶y̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ ̶s̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶o̶l̶d̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶,̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶r̶t̶s̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ , so maybe I'll just run winamp while I play and give myself a little background music... like as if I had a CD player in that baby.

The game itself is pretty fun though, it's a lot simpler than my usual space game preferences but that's not exactly a bad thing. This, I can pick up and play, Elite Dangerous or X3 are a bit more of a mental investment. Definitely will keep palying this one, though, because aside from the music I don't have any REAL complaints. Not yet anyway.

What is WRONG with people these days?!

Actually, I have some...
The main is the lack of strategy in fights. This make the gameplay very redundant, as it is basically a naval battle, but with very poor choices in tactical approaches.

So it's kind of hack'n'slash, "no brain" game once you understand the pros & cons of the ships (and this doesn't take much time...), and assuming that itemization is only a linear "buy-the-next-one".

It's fun ! Indeed. But so redundant, so poor in tactical choices, that it may cause kind of overdose quite quickly.
And so the repetitive soundtrack doesn't help...

I'm just trying Starpoint Gemini 2 actually, and if the gameplay is clearly "heavier", and the whole game slower, it is also far richer.

I enjoy it. That said I can understand the style of music is very hit or miss with people. There's even a track in there where I love the guitar playing but hate the lyrics (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Better). It's why I'm glad we PC users can select our own soundtrack and why it's good folks can turn the music volume down. I listen to a wide variety of music from Bluegrass to Bavarian polka's (I blame being a Weird Al fan). It's nice to be able to change things up.

There are plenty of greate atmospheric songs out there. Maybe some of those will suit you better.

EDIT: Fun fact-my unofficial Rebel Galaxy playlist over on Spotify is now at 3,018 subs! Woo hoo! https://open.spotify.com/user/1211204907/playlist/3pNqrKSsoZyQ9u5BhLkBNc

I like my choices of a mix of Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, Dream Theater, and a few other random bands. Some mix with the style of the game more than others, but really I'm just testing the waters but it makes a massive difference to me already to have so much more variety. I am a sucker for 90's - 2000's non-college rock, what can I say?

I have a feeling I've already nearly mastered that aspect of the game (and I'm still flying Rasputin...). It's too bad, because there's some potential here. It's mechanics are fun, but I can see a lot of space for depth with such a combat system.

I've been looking at Starpoint Gemini too, and it looks interesting, though I'm not sure which to get yet... I suppose maybe I should just go for the newest.

Well, this is fun for now, but I can see boredom on the horizon. Guess I'll have to play this one in spurts.

Starpoint Gemini 2 seems to be a more consistant (and more pleasing to the eye) version of SG1, so there's no need to play SG1, apparently.

What i could say after a few hours on SG2 is that it reminds me games like "Freelancer" far more than Rebel Galaxy.

Gameplay is rich, but it's not piloting sim like Elite Dangerous, nor a management game like the X licence.
But it's also not as "arcade" as Rebel Galaxy : itemization of ships is more complex, there are skills and perks to invest in, a lot of different ships to choose, cloaking etc...

The game seems to be a good sandbox, with good "space sim" feelings, lot of things to do.
It's clearly a bit more austere than RG, also more classic as space opera, but finally it's more interesting, and more my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed Rebel Galaxy, specially the identity developpers tried to put in, but I bought it beacause I read it was like Freelancer, and it's not (by far...).

Still looking to the worthy successor of Freelancer...

For upgrades, certain ones are just "buy the next one" like upgrading armor, but they do offer equipment that has differing stats depending on what your preferences are. For instance, there's a shield type that has a large capacity but a slow recharge rate, and there's also 3 types of boosters; balanced, high speed with slow acceleration and longer thrust time, and high acceleration with a shorter thrust time. Ships are a little less straightforward after a while. You're obviously going to have to upgrade from your starter ship to something bigger since the starter ship is kinda bad.

As for the combat, while it is really simple, it's nice to have a space game that doesn't try to be complicated and instead be simple. I've seen vids of Elite and Star Citizen, and they're both trying to simulate space in a way, but Elite just ends up being Euro Truck Simulator in space with lasers. Dunno about Star Citizen since it doesn't really have a demo up yet, but from what I've seen, it's likely going to have less of the ETS feel to it with how it has ground sections to it as well.

Yes, yes, of course... But a very few. Ok for Booster, which is the only real tactical choice, for me. The others have so little influence that you can just look for the "bigger" one, regarding stats.
Besides, the weapons are a bit unbalanced : mining lasers overtop quite everything else, missiles can be easily replaced by a less binding weapon etc. the result is most of players choosing mining lasers.

True, this is a good point for the game : player can choose ships according to their feeling.
But precisely : because itemization is obviously too linear, and quite unbalanced, player shoud have a lot of ships to choose between, with variety in the possibilities of each.

It's so true ! I bought Rebel Galaxy for this reason exactly. But I think a "simple" gameplay should be balanced by something else : variety in the missions, or intensive combat feelings, or great scenario, or tons of loot, etc...

Actually, I think Rebel Galaxy is a bit narrow, with plenty of good ideas, but not enough to feed them.

Freelancer is definitely the dream model, regarding this balance between arcade gameplay and addictive feelings.

(I hope I was clear, i'm still working my English ... Steam forums are a great training place >_< )
