And while I would go back and replay Freelancer again, I can't seem to enjoy this game. Maybe joystick support would fix that. I mean, would you fly in a jetliner if you knew the pilot was using a gamepad to fly? Or worse yet, a mouse?!!
Depends is said Jetliner on a fixed 2-d plane that doesn't require up and down navigation? Also how well are said controller and mouse mapped to both the movement and in general controls of said jetliner? Cause if properly set up I think it would be fine and would gladly do so, assuming said pilot was competent in said type of control use.
However on the main point of this thread...as others have pointed out you can map your own controls via steam assuming steam acknowledges your Stick & Throttle based joystick as a controller and just set it up with the game controls (probably using a M&KB scheme or a controller scheme if you could pull it off). Honestly not sure how effective/fun it would be over all since combat is less get tone lock and fire and more of a chargin up my attack sort of thing, though I do think the throttle control would pair nicely with being able to pull off quick turns.
