was my easy mode ship as its fast enough to get out of trouble
Well, not sure this may be another bug, but with Radovich I get my laser broadsides ranger just ~2.8 sm far (which is its reported range).
But with Arcturus (I really like its ISD design!) or McKinley (my current ship) without any boost, the same laser broadside snips as far as 5.8 sm away!.. With the Mercenaries' augmentation, it goes up to 7.0-7.2 sm away. This makes it a good damage per hit and distance.
Back to the subject, the stations kind of get smaller over time :) So as you progress in the game, you are going to pick up bigger and bigger ships.
But as a good intermediate ship, I liked the Tennhausen and Arcturus. But seems like progress isprogress. I got McKinley and I am not really missing Arcturus... hehe
The McKinley is very good with the turning "boosters". I didn't try the maneuver jet boost on Arcturus (the ISD) but in missions I was dying all the time with Radovich, I went barely scratched with slow ISD. :)
And the game does a nice job on distance handling. Small ships requires you to be very close to the stations to dock. Bigger ones allow you to "park" farther away.

I actually skpped destroyers. Before that, I used a McK, but it was really frustrating with how slow and hard to steer it was. Plus, I had a hard time getting the trade going, so the extra hold space was a waste. But maybe I was just bad at optimizing it with subs.
And someone earlier was right about some of the bigger ships having longer broadside range. In particular, the four biggest have massively upgraded range...
The militia-specific outpost (or station) also has exclusive weapon... a missile that fires from very far, does a lot of damage and has a huuuge blast radius. Cooldown is very long, probably a little useful only before combat starts but I didn't find it as useful... When I get in to the fight, everything that could have their shields down would already have caught it back up. :)
By the way, about the largest ship, I think it is the Korian Dreadnaught, I think it is bigger than a station! But it is hard to get too close to it (currently McKinley on mk4 gear) to compare the sizes. But much much bigger than lil Mackie. :)
