Largest ship?
Hi. I just picked this game up and find it really neat.

But I am left very curious as to what the largest ship you see in the game might be. I don't mean just what I, as a player, can own.

I ask because I see derelicts of what must be battleships, cruisers, carriers, or perhaps dreadnoughts all over the place. I wonder aloud if I will at some point see something truly magnificent.

With 20 guns to a side the Blackgate is about as big as it gets. http://rebelgalaxy.gamepedia.com/Ships/Blackgate The problem is she steers like a truck. I prefer frigates. The Tennhausen http://rebelgalaxy.gamepedia.com/Ships/Tennhausen might not pack a punch but she can really move.

I was eyeing he Tennhausen. Not a bad looking ship. Are there anything inbetween frigates and the blackgate?

I like the Sturville. she's nearly the the fastest of all of them and has better wepons loadout than some lighter ships. But with mods I take the Savage Horizon.

was my easy mode ship as its fast enough to get out of trouble

I hated the Radovich! Very fast, good to ram in the guys, but it can't handle snipping from a distance...

Well, not sure this may be another bug, but with Radovich I get my laser broadsides ranger just ~2.8 sm far (which is its reported range).

But with Arcturus (I really like its ISD design!) or McKinley (my current ship) without any boost, the same laser broadside snips as far as 5.8 sm away!.. With the Mercenaries' augmentation, it goes up to 7.0-7.2 sm away. This makes it a good damage per hit and distance.

Back to the subject, the stations kind of get smaller over time :) So as you progress in the game, you are going to pick up bigger and bigger ships.

But as a good intermediate ship, I liked the Tennhausen and Arcturus. But seems like progress isprogress. I got McKinley and I am not really missing Arcturus... hehe

The McKinley is very good with the turning "boosters". I didn't try the maneuver jet boost on Arcturus (the ISD) but in missions I was dying all the time with Radovich, I went barely scratched with slow ISD. :)

And the game does a nice job on distance handling. Small ships requires you to be very close to the stations to dock. Bigger ones allow you to "park" farther away.

By the end of the game, I was cruising in a pimped out Black, with Mk6 Neutron Beams as Broadsides, and a mix of particale lasers and ions, 1:1 ratio spread evenly across all mounts. Plus the best shields, hull and deflector. I even got myself an Merchant exclusive cargo bay just for the kick of it.

I actually skpped destroyers. Before that, I used a McK, but it was really frustrating with how slow and hard to steer it was. Plus, I had a hard time getting the trade going, so the extra hold space was a waste. But maybe I was just bad at optimizing it with subs.

When does the Arcturus become available?
Azariasz Jun 28, 2017 @ 3:30pm
I belive it is avalible if you have a good standing with citizenry. I was barely neutral with the Militia, but friendly with them, adn there it was.

McKinley is a pretty terrible ship tbh. I'd skip it, but the destroyers are all just fine. Arcturus is a hell of a ship.

And someone earlier was right about some of the bigger ships having longer broadside range. In particular, the four biggest have massively upgraded range...

Arcturus is available from militia-affiliated stations. I happened to have a milita station on the system on my first jump following history quests. Not sure how is the station affiliation stuff set up. The third system I jumped (if I recall well, just jumped on it) does not have a militia outpost.

The militia-specific outpost (or station) also has exclusive weapon... a missile that fires from very far, does a lot of damage and has a huuuge blast radius. Cooldown is very long, probably a little useful only before combat starts but I didn't find it as useful... When I get in to the fight, everything that could have their shields down would already have caught it back up. :)

By the way, about the largest ship, I think it is the Korian Dreadnaught, I think it is bigger than a station! But it is hard to get too close to it (currently McKinley on mk4 gear) to compare the sizes. But much much bigger than lil Mackie. :)

No problem, I'll hop onto my Blackgate save and go hunting for a Korian dread for comparison.

No Korians have shown their octopus faces yet, but here I am trading paint with a couple other dreadnoughts for comparison.

NPC ships are larger than player models.

LOL see how hard it is to take a selfie with a biggie next (all pics with shields down). I'm with the McKinley so I don't think I would do a good comparison... Will try to take a shot next time I see a Korian Dreadnought. .. and survive it. :)

My shields aren't actually down. They're just blinking from taking damage. I can't actually remember the last time my Blackgate had a shield arc go down. XD
