Rebel Galaxy

Red Devil Ace fighter shreds my destroyer?
Is my game bugged? Taking fire from one or two of these burns through my destroyer's shields, deflector, and hull in under 10 seconds, while enemy cruisers can barely drop the shields.

No bug, set your weapons to auto or manual, if you haven't set these correctly, some will find it a little hard.

This will help you with the game:- http://rebelgalaxy.gamepedia.com/Rebel_Galaxy_Wiki

Turret specs:- http://rebelgalaxy.gamepedia.com/Turrets

There is plenty of information within that wiki to help you gain better control and to help you with weapon settings.

I don't mean to be rude, but my turret settings don't seem to have much of an effect in the case where I'm dead within a few seconds of the uber-fighters appearing. IF I could set each individual turret to target a different fighter, and IF each turret could kill one fighter near-instantaneously, and IF there was zero time between shots, then that might be the solution. Of course, in the event that such an arrangement worked, I would have very little left to shoot at capital ships with. So while I appreciate the suggestion, the problem is not that I can't fight back. It's that unlike every other encounter over the last ten hours of gameplay, I'm being obliterated by a couple of fighters before I have the time to fight back.
Be careful, this game has an unusual balance. In RG, it is much better to have a small ship with high level equipment than a poorly equipped large ship. I learned that the hard way when my MK3 Destroyer blew up much more quickly than the Frigate I flew before that.

My first thought about fighters in this game was, " I want one". They are bad ass. Get good flak guns, and dont try to take on to many fighters at once.
i use a combination of pulse cannons, flack canons, and one scatter turret (for point defense), combined with my secondary broadside being flack cannons too. my arcturus destroyer has very little issues tangling with fighters. (and might i suggest not going into the extreme difficulty systems till you're ready)
Upgrade weapons before you upgrade ship. The really good weapons cost more than ships, and the big ships needs so many of the weapons you need a VERY big nest egg.

Also, always upgrade your afterburners... uh, boosters. You need the long-boost one that will get you out of binds like fighter swarms. Just accelerate and fire missiles and leave enemies behind you.

Remember, if condition is red, run like heck
It might also be worth looking into the Merchant Guild's unique ship plating. It reduces damage taken from fighters by a healthy percent, scaling with rank of the armor.
