So how do you get multiplayer to actually work?
We're trying to get through our first round.
We have ELCP, I have all the DLCs, the other two players don't have any DLCs
We're playing with the normal version, no betas, no mods.
The three computers are on a LAN.

Our first play session we got regular de-syncs where one computer would just disconnect at random... most of the time they could re-join, but the AI would always break everything when they got back. Sometimes they couldn't re-join and we'd have to reload the game.

Our second session all of the players displayed as Wild Walkers in the game lobby, even though none of us are Wild Walkers. It took us a few loads but we finally got it to go and we were the correct races.

Our third session the two joining players appear to be set to "Single Only" mode and they can't change it. When I launch the game it doesn't bring them with, they get stuck in the lobby. Mine will get stuck at "waiting for other empires". If I quit the game then their games load. If they quit mine will load. If they quit and try to re-join it just sits in the jobby, never loading.

There's one guide that suggests switching back to 32 bit mode and re-verifying files, but I imagine that would break ELCP. Does that actually help?

I mean... none of this surprises me considering Amplitude's tradition of leaving games extremely buggy... but is it actually possible to get through a multiplayer session?

EDIT:
We can't even get it to host on the other computers, it still locks everyone into single only and they can't actually join the game.

I don't think the game actually supports LAN play?

So you'll probably need to set up port forwarding, for the host at the least. Do it for the game or Steam, you don't need to bother doing it for both (same ports are used, as the game uses Steam networking features).

Here are the ports to forward for Endless Legend:

TCP Ports: 27014-27050
UDP Ports: 3478, 4379-4380, 27000-27031, 27036

Thanks!
The game seems to connect and join fine. The clients can see the proper settings, you can see when a player clicks ready, and the game starts at the same time when everybody's ready.

We were making progress in the game for those first two play sessions.

Our main problem is it randomly started locking the clients into "single player" for the game mode at the top and wouldn't let them change it even though it was a multiplayer game. The drop down option to change it wasn't even there, even though it just joined a game. So seemingly because of that it won't those people in single player mode actually join in.

Our last attempt the game was listing random numbers in the "game will start in so many seconds" countdown until it said -1000 ish and froze.

We'll look into the port forwarding option though. Possibly double check firewall too.
