Yes, you can hide your units.

Go to the mini-map at the lower left of the big map. On top of it is a row of buttons. One of them is Map Options (I believe it's second from the left in the row of buttons), press it and you get a long list of things you can display vs hide on the main map. I believe the one that you uncheck to hide units is called something strange like "unit flags".

Hi ! I'm sorry but there are only 3 things I can hide this way : the grid, the ressources and the yield :(

You have an earlier version of the game. I'm not sure if it was with GS, or in one of the updates after GS, but around that time the unmodded User Interface got much better, and one of the things it now lets you do is to hide your units. It also lets you do a whole lot of other things I find much more useful, to the point that I got rid of the UI mods I had running before because I no longer needed them.

I never had a mod that hid units, so I can't recommend a mod to you to do that, in case you don't want to get GS. But if you do get GS, you will be able to hide units.
I am not aware of any option to turn off unit icons. I'm not sure doing that would be wise, if it were an option, since that would make units a lot more difficult to spot and identifying unit ownership at a glance often impossible. In any case, there isn't a mini-map option to turn off unit flags, or any other option for that anywhere in the game that I could find. So, you'd need to look for or create a mod that gave the option to turn off the flags.

I'm using GS and do not have this option. Can you post a screenshot showing this option?

I just want this feature to make "clean" screenshots :)
Anyway, wise or not, I just want to do it ^^

Yes, on checking, I found that I had the mod Concise UI enabled, and that disabling this mod removed the "Show unit flags" feature from Map Options. While it doesn't remove the little icons themselves, they are quite unobtrusive if the object is to get an uncluttered view of the map, which I agree is a pretty idiosyncratic goal, but people can play this game for all sorts of rewards I can't see the benefit of, and more power to them. At any rate, with this Concise UI mod, you get a way to hide the unit flags for an uncluttered view, then turn them back on in-game with relative ease if you want to reposition your units, or see if the AIs are moving their units around

This is an object lesson in the persistence of mods. I disabled all of my mods after the improved UI that the game itself tossed in some time around GS (the yield display under that row of leader icons is especially nice), yet I have noticed even before this Concise UI issue, that some mods seem to re-enable themselves, presumably because I checked a box for them to automatically update when I originally installed them, then when they update automatically, they enable automatically. I did nothing to re-enable Concise UI, yet there it was when I went to check at the prompting of this question about hiding unit flags. I will check and see if Concise UI does anything more useful to me than hiding unit flags, and if not, this time I will uninstall and not just disable.

At any rate, even with all mods actually disabled, Map Options in clean and updated GS has a lot more choices than just the three Pixl-Pixl can see: grid, resources, and yield.

Check out Concise UI. It doesn't hide the little images of the units themselves, but they are small and unobtrusive. It lets you get rid of the big flags that are obtrusive.

For screenshots, I can recommend this mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=939149009

It actually has a screenshot mode that you can turn on :)
