DLC is why i no longer buy AAA games.
I want this game, I really do. I love the civilization franchise, but there comes a time when you just have to say goodbye. all this nickle and diming on DLC features that at one time were a free part of the game. Most gamers might be to young to remember but there was a time in video games were you were rewarded new content for playing the game, and when a new content update patch was available, it was offered free as a way to increase sales of the base game.

Well anyway, maybe when the game of the year edition comes out...

Free to subscribers. You're paying to play the game. Its not free, they just got there money for it from you over the months paying to play the game.
really? Your paying for access to the game itself not expanded content. They could have charged for every expansion like everybody else does.

Anyways this is the Civ VI forums not the Eveonline Forums.

DLC is a nessessary evil. It keeps people interested and the game relivant. Sometimes its cool and sometimes is crap, Bethsoft Horse Armour DLC for example.

Your paying them monthly to play the game period. Thats additional money for what amounts to server maintance on there end. They use that additional money to add content to the game to keep you playing, thus keep you paying. Thinking they are giving you "free" content is missguided at best.

The real irony is that if betheda had released horse armor now with a new released game (instead of when they did) it would not have anywhere near the social impact it did.

Unless you have access to the game already, you can only hope this is correct. Still, I pre-ordered it myself, because it DOES look like this will be a good addition to the series. I just wish they would add free updates for the stuff pulled from the final release due to quality issues. The Witcher 3 had quite a bit of free stuff added after release, in addition to the two "paid" DLC stuff.

That is what people want, extra hair styles for example, should NEVER cost extra, while major new additions would end up in an expansion.

While this was true with Witcher 3.

The majority of dlc sold does not fall under this category. Ubisoft for instance plans out all of there dlc before the game even launches.

And then there are cases where the DLC is largely concepted, designed and developed after release.

Interesting read for anyone wanting an insight; budget-wise they cannot be compared I am sure. But the process is true, a lot of points are valid for a game like civ VI, and might explain for a lot of doubters if they are willing to read:

I support every civ game even the ones i hate like Revolutions and the one I absolutly despise, Civ IV: Colonization. I'll play Freeciv before I even look at Colonization.

Civ V DLC is also known as Expansion packs `Gods and kings `Brave new world`. Even Civ IV had expansion packs so in my opinion they are the only Developer I know with Bethesda and blizzard who still create enough content that enhances the gameplay and is not just cosmetic.

Expansions packs (what we now call DLC) have been going on for a long time. Warcraft 2,Red Alert, and Tiberian Sun were games made in the 90s which all had expansion packs costing about $20 each. I remember the expansion pack for RedAlert 2 costing around $30-$40.

And if there are bugs the developer can easily upload a patch onto steam to fix it. I remember in the early days we did not have internet and if a game sucked hard on PC due to bugs ... well you could not really play that game
