Can you plant Forests?
I'm late game, food production is through the roof but need more industry production for Science Victory (maxed out science track, trying to do moon landing). It's taking a while, but if I could get some more lumber mills it would boost it a lot. But I have no more forests in this particular city.

So. Can you plant forests? I can't find a way to.

yes, with later tech
wpmaura Oct 28, 2016 @ 2:27pm
using builders, you can also build beach resorts

What tech? I think I have it all. I am playing Kongo.
Aserghui Oct 28, 2016 @ 2:29pm
yes with waaaaaaaaay later tech. I can't remember which off the top of my head.
wpmaura Oct 28, 2016 @ 2:29pm
You cant have them all, then, also you might only be able to do it on grasslands and plains
Freedom Oct 28, 2016 @ 2:29pm
yes, builder unlock with conservation I think.
The conservation tech in the modern era allows you to train naturalists who can plant forests and create national parks. However you get no production bonus if you plant then chop the trees
Freedom Oct 28, 2016 @ 2:37pm
But you can build a lumber mill on them to increase production.

Yes, it's Conservation tech "Allows Builders to plant Woods (second-growth). Woods in your territory that have never been removed (old-growth) gain +1 Appeal."

What Zaccheus says is still correct with the 2 expansions RF and GS.
However, it is not a technology, but a Modern Era Civic.

But beware! You can not always plant trees !
And your builder won't always show the little icon for planting a forest.

When you look at all the list improvements allowed by a builder in the in-game Civilopedia, you won't find something about planting forests in the long list on the right, along with golf .

But it is possible, in some cases, and the little icon can appear allowing you to put trees.
As says the civic :"Allows Builders to plant woods (second-growth)".
- it means that you can NOT plant woods if the place has never seen a forest before (ex.: remove a marsh and try to plant woods). But, if you or the previous owner(s) cleared all trees then later decide to plant them back, it is possible.
- you can not plant woods on some tile, ex marsh (see below), desert, flooded tiles
- it is possible than, in some cases, some undiscovered resources block the 2nd-growth planting. It has been observed for uranium, and some archaeologic sites (to be 100% confirmed)

Untrue. Second-growth just means it was planted recently, not that there used to be trees there before.

Also why did you dredge up this ancient thread to answer this?

1- sorry, but you are wrong. You cannot plant woods if they have been harvested before. In case you have problems with the meaning of 2nd growth:
second-growth-forest
Noun
(plural second-growth forests)
(forestry) A forest which has been harvested and is regrowing.
"which has been harvested" ...

2- And why no? Are you worry about the consumption of electricity wasted for giving information to other people?... a nice concern. But fear not ... my house is on solar panels irl...
I answered this thread for
a- clarifying something I was looking for some times ago.
b- updating the info after the 2 expansions for other player, not only you...
c- and because there is nothing wrong with that.

Thats nice I guess but your information is wrong, and you necroed a 3 year old thread to provide that wrong information.

Builders can plant trees on any tile that Could be a woods tile. IE Grassland, plains, or tundra tiles, that aren't next to lakes. They don't need to have had trees there before. They just need to be a valid tile that could naturally support woods.

Im confused but maybe im just reading your posts wrong LlLl, but you seem to contradict yourself.

In your first post you say you can plant woods if woods have been cleared on that tile before, in your second post you say you cannot plant woods if they have been harvested before. Maybe im reading it wrong.
