I am using a script that gives me a restart button on the menu, so i can start over from bad start positions. doesn't stop me from getting achievements.
What mods are you using?
Seems likely they decided not to have mods disable achievements. After all, if people really want to cheat their way to achievements, that's easy enough without even running the game.
cqui mod ( UI enhancements plus other mods rolled in)
Better Trading
Unit Report screen
A+ ( made a big difference to the way the AI interacts with you and the game)
Improved water yields
All these have transformed the game into a much more polished and less frustrating experience by basically adding little enhancements to menus, AI behaviour, maps and the UI.
And anyway achievements are for each individual as a way of checking off things they complete in a game...who care if John Smith cheated one somehow it doesn't effect you or I.
Right, plus there was that one "broken" achievement in V that involved rating a mod... which required you to have mods on, thus disabling your ability to get the achievement. People went totally nuts about it.
