Barbarian frenzy
Too many barbarians in Civ 6 and expansions. I agree that it's nice to have a challenging game, but in my case I don't have so much time to play and Barbarians end up destroying every single game I start, as they make every single plan I make completely useless and I end up fighting for years and years and years instead of doing anything else. The game simply gets boring. I know I can turn them off, but I think there should be a bar that could let you choose the difficulty of Barbarians. 0 Barbarians or 4738947382 Barbarians is not a choice at all. I hate the game right now.

You basically need 3 archers ASAP for protection against any potential early game threats anyway. That should be more than enough to thwart barbarians.
If you get the horse barbarians early and in a bad spot, you can be in trouble. Their assault of 2 horseman and a horse archer can mean bad news for any troops (it will struggle to take a city)

Ston thrower in a city can take on any barbs,no probs. :P

I wish half of the barbarians were wild animals instead - I loved those little critters, it was really scary when you came across a marauding lion with your scout.

There’s a fairly generous grace period in camps before they start spawning serious threats. Take out nearby ones before they become a problem.

Killing lots of barbarians is a great way for your units to get experience.

It seems like nearly every person I've seen complain about barbarians has the same stance. First step is claiming that barbs literally ruin every single game ever, without exception. Second is to refuse to turn them off, third is to refuse to mod them.

Barbarians are fine for the majority of people. If you're petitioning for a change to the base game, I wouldn't waste the energy hoping. Turn them off or change them with a mod.

Yeh they spawn alot faster now as well, it's a funny thing.. if you get horses nearby you usually think that's great.. but it really isn't. Not seeing horses nearby is now good..

Wait till you get swordsmen spawning so rapidly they are killing your knights by just spamming them.

I also had a scout come in and destroy 2 of my districts whilst I was off killing his camp. He destroyed my campus and holy before I even reached his camp.

I've never had a problem with barbarians and rarely have they 'ruined' a game. Just made it more challenging. I do however find that in the few hours since 'Rise and Fall' dropped that the spawn rate is faster than Civ 6 vanilla.

So... you're saying that you left your city undefended while a barb scout was wandering around, didn't bother to go after him and instead went looking for the village to clean it... and the scout pillaged one campus and one holy site (a thing that takes 2~4 turns to do) BEFORE you got to the village.
Sorry to ask but where's the surprise or awkwardness in this? :)

barbarians have never sacked my cities....the loot and plunder but then afterwards they go home. Always keep a builder with 1 charge left to promptly repair.....also try to use river and forested hills to defend with your warrior. There is an early swarm when there is a lot of open spaces...that are darkened....I camped a warrior next to a barbarian camp and fortified him.....a horsie spawned every 3 turns...good xp.....I farmed it for quite a while. 3 turns does feel awful fast. There are horsie archers too...never seen one spawn but they run all over the place early in the game.

There are a lot.

It usually just forces you to build 3 slingers early and push for archers ASAP. Once that is done barbarians usually cease to be a threat.

Best strategy I found:

1 - go explore the surrounding tiles with your warrior.
2 - first thing to build is a slinger. Go explore surrounding tile with it too.
3 - you should spot nearby camps before they spam units
4 - send the warrior and the slinger to destroy the camp. Try to get the eureka to build archers

Afterwards try to build new archers and another melee unit. Your aim is to destroy barbarian camps, not just to kil barbarian units.
One slinger is far from enough unless you're playing in settler difficulty. Archers are also useful for early wars. If you manage to get some xp one your troops early on, you can even counter-attack against a warmonger civ like the Zulus or Sumer. Alternatively, they are a nice source of gold to build more settlers faster.

Barbarians are essentially passive and harmless unless you allow a scout to create a raiding party. The scouts are braindead and almost never move back toward their camp once they spot your city, they move in a random direction or away from threats. You have to basically put effort into getting any barbarians to spawn in Civ6.

Well they are certainly a threat in my game with Rise and Fall. Espeically if you have a camp near your first city they are a nightmare and can slow you down a lot trying to control them.
