Q: How to not lose ?
Hello, everyone! :)

I have a silly question to you guys, and I hope I will not only get a negative response on this thread.

I'm new at CiV games, and this is my first turn-based games, did play 5 easy AI runs and all of them did I lose :(
This sounds like I'm a noob, I know. That's why I'm here to ask for tips for a long run game.

How did I lose?:
AI won one of 4 condition, most of the case: religion & culture...

Is there a chance to decrease their victory and going forward and win ??
Can't find any guide about how to not lose, just "easy victory" on youtube, most of the case is domination. But my goal is going to the end of the Tech tree without losing by AI on easy...
Today I did decide to win domination but did still lose lol. Because one AI won culture :/,
did enable only domination, then did I won, but that's not fair, want to enable all of the victory conditions and still win without losing at the end of the game.

Summary:
How to win against AI and decrease their coming victory condition and play as long you want ? :)

P.S!
Yes, i've heard that this is 90% chans to win and that AI is to easy to win against.

Well, you can always toggle off the culture/religious/science victory conditions, which means the game does not end even if an AI has a dominant culture.

You must play a different way I guess. I've played over 20 complete games, from ancient era to information, and I always win my games by Culture, Science or Religion. I did win twice by domination (achievements required) but the domination games were easy to beat. I don't like the domination aspect of the game much.

Having said that, I never lost against the AI. I always manage to decide midgame which victory I aim for, and I get it. (I must disclose that I always play on default prince and less AIs in my games).

All I'm saying is, I play peaceful games all the time, there's barely any war amongst the civs (myself included), and it becomes a game of developing our civs, I let them grow, they let me grow, we all build big cities, we let the city-states live, and everyone lives in harmony on a fully built map, turn 723. All we do is trade luxuries and collect as many tourists, trade routes, gold as we can. We actually ALL are good friends.

I wish you can have a game like that one day, if you wish for that kinda game.

Simplest advice I can give is keep an eye on the victory condition tab in the top right of the screen. Kill anyone who leads in a category, make sure if you see religious units in your borders you kill them off as well.

Regardless of whatever victory type you choose, successful wars will generally help you get there much faster while slowing down your opponents.

In Domination, just keeps building new units! or better techs and new units!

but this game is hard to lose, the AI is broken is very much LOL in any setting
The simplest advice I could give you us build more cities. With more cities you will produce more hammers, science, culture, and gold. I would say a minimum of 7 cities all in close proximity to one another.
City planning: with 7 cities you want one in the middle with 6 cities surrounding it withing 5-9 tiles from the middle city center.

I suggest reading up on adjacency bonuses so when you place districts and wonders you can plan ahead to get the most out of your districts.
Every city needs to have a commercial hub and an industrial hub. When placing the industrial make sure it's within 6 tiles from your middle city and the two closest cities to take advantage of the regional bonuses of the factory and powerplant.
Culture is just as important as science. With more culture your borders grow faster, the quicker you unlock governments and policy cards, and the less likely your empire will be wearing another civilizations blue jeans and listening to thier pop music. I suggest keeping culture per turn equal to or at minimum 2/3 of your science per turn.
You don't need encampments in every city. I highly recommend putting one in the middle city and any coastal cities you. Have because that's where you will be building most of your land and navy units. You could also place them in your forward cities that are closest to other civilizations for defense. However the AI is helpless at attacking so they're not technically necessary.
Even if you're not going for a religious victory I suggest building 2-3 holy sites in the most profitable locations like near a mountain chain or natural wonder. The beliefs can be quite helpful but where faith is most beneficial is from building/unit/great people purchases.
If you're playing peaceful I recommend having a strong military to deter any wars declared against you. Being weak militarily will trigger a lot of various ai agendas and can cause a new player problems. But as mentioned above, if you see a civ running away on a victory condition you can always build more to keep up with them or go to war with them to slow thier progress.

Step 1: Turn off religious victory.
Step 2: Play game.
;)

If you want to improve a particular type of system in strat games the best option is to turn off the victory conditions that you are not 'focusing on'. You can still see the AI attempt to keep the numbers up, so you get an idea of how they will play it out.

In the meantime you can focus on your 'victory goal'. It seems that many people have many different kinds of ways to win. Whichever works best for you, as well as your prefered nation for best benefits for your style.

This AI likes to attack early on to keep you down from the beginning. However, that often backfires when they have spent so much time and effort on building troops. Keep to defenses against this ai and focus on your victory type. You will win.

The key to this AI is their lack of mobility. Hold a defensive line and just wound the closest armies so they don't attack with their 'full health' bonuses. Also keep your defensive line with bonuses, such as on hills vs. plains, forests on hills or holding the line at a river crossing.

You wont need many troops if you manage to position them in defensive positions.

What you said about holding a defensive line is correct. However if you turn off a specific victory condition you will not be able to see other civilizations progress towards it. So say you turn off science, you will have no idea how many techs they have or how much science per turn they're making. Which can be very hazardous if they're making 100 science per turn compared to your 40.

Turn off SCORE victory. It's the only victory condition that is complete nonsense.

Leave the rest enabled.

Your first problem is that you are slacking off. You can't treat this game like a sandbox city builder, like most new players do. It's a competitive strategy game. It's a race to the finish.

Like other strategy games, you have to keep the pressure on your opponent, and push the pace.

You need to generate science as fast as possible in order to always have a modern military.

Your secondary objective is to pursue your preferred victory condition. But that isn't possible without science and a modern military.

You cannot sit back, relax and sandbox the hell out of this game. You need to go after your opponents. This is a military game first and foremost, with lemonade stand economy management.

Nice guys finish last in Civilization VI. The reason being: Because every leader in this game is criminally insane.

You need to get tough and treat them like the criminals they are. Play cutthroat, and you'll play better.

Keep a watchful eye on the victory panel. Find out who's pursuing what. Then shut them down.

Steal their key cities so they can't win. Keep them, burn them, or sell them to the most pathetic Civ opponent on the map.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend playing the tutorial :) It has both a "new to civ 6" and a "new to 4x games" option and will talk you through the mechanics of such games :)
