Close borders ?

How do I close my borders ? I can't even get a scout trough other civilization borders while they can get a whole army pass trough my cities without any open border deal signed, or even researched.

they're getting religious units or trade through your borders, not army units.

Your borders are open to other civilizations until you manage to research a certain civil tech. I think it's political philosophy (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So besides getting a better government it's rather important to get this civil tech asap.

Research Early Empires civic.

Open borders is a diplomatic agreement. After a number of turns it will run out. It just takes a while.

yeah you have open borders by default until you get "early empire". if you already have that, it's possible that you agreed to give them open borders without you noticing it was part of a deal.

Well, I've already researched early empire a while ago, and after double check I don't have any open border treaty, we aren't at war either, but these japanese keep running into my land for some reason.

I have the problem of units, military, civilian, and religious, just waltzing through my civ with no open borders....and those who say, "it is because you have not developed the tech to close the borders" my civ is in the atomic era...and the Russians, Indians, Nubians, ect... just waltz across the border like they own the place....If I send a unit over thier border...it triggers a war! What is up....it seems like a glitch to me!!!!!!!!!!

I see this problem occasionally and it usually crops up after an open border agreement expires leaving foreign units in my territory. It's annoying, particularly if you need a resource that a unit is sitting on.

I've just seen this problem for the first time. I'm in the information era, and EARLY in the game I had an alliance with India. That alliance is long since ended. But India's units are crossing my borders at will. And if I attempt to cross theirs, I get the "declaration of war" warning. Is there any way to get my borders locked up again?
