METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

This game is bizarre...
Is anybody else here new to this series, and kind of turned off by how silly the game is?

I bought this game months ago, but I've been unable to advance beyond the first mission, where the alien things show up. The game is just flat out weird. I mean, I thought Bioshock Infinite's plot was ridiculous... this game's is even worse.

I was expecting a military stealth game - instead I seem to have gotten a game built around some Japanese developer's pubescent fantasies.

Even the gameplay confuses me. The game presents itself as a stealth game, but it's not really. The scores for this game are though the roof, which is the reason I bought it, but I just can't get into this game, for the life of me.

That's like reading Harry Potter from the 6th book onward. :/

It's a stealth game through and through. After the first mission that is.

Lol those are The Skulls. The first few missions are mainly just tutorials the stealth will get better as you progress. Also expect silliness in a Metal Gear game.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting that, actually.

Doubly hilarious since this is, without a contest the most grounded and least silly MGS entry.

OP would likely suffer an aneurysm, if shown The Pain or even Fatman or Vamp.

It is a stealth game. Staying quiet, using shadows, hiding bodies in dumpsters, and a myriad of equipment. You don't have to be sneaky, but you have many incentives to do so. Earning a 'Foxhound' codename is a source of pride because the stealth in this game is the product of patience and lateral thinking.

You couldn't even get past the first stage? You're posting on the Steam forum, with tons of guides and experienced players, but you not only can't get past the first level but you are jumping to conclusions?

I am new to the MGS world, my first game was Ground Zeroes. That appeared to be a straight stealth game but some of the other missions introduced weird stuff like bodysnatching aliens.

It is what it is, the world of MGS has almost supernatural elements to it which for me makes it that bit more interesting. Don't take it too seriously...

"CP I just saw a cardboard box move!"

"Knock it off"

"b but... the box!?"

The weirdest is Metal Gear Solid 3. Just take a look at the bosses. But by that point in the series you expect wacky things, that´s how the MGS series work.

The ending of MGS2 begs to differ. Fission mailed.

Not really, MGS3 IS silly - it's supposed to, the game is a tongue-in-cheek parody of 60's era spy films.

The finale to MGS2 isn't supposed to be and really isn't silly - it's unsettling.

I was a little disappointed the game wasn't weirder honestly. This is my first MGS game, but I'm familiar with the series. When playing the prologue, I'm like, "Ok, kid in a gasmask just phased through the ceiling, there's some dude on fire rampaging through a hospital, Ocelot is dressed like a cowboy and carrying me away on horseback, yeah I can dig it".

The other games had these setpiece boss fights but this game kind of didn't, you only really fight Quiet, Man on Fire and Sehalanthropus. The skulls I don't really count as a boss fight because they don't seem like 'individual' characters, more like really tough mooks. MGS1-4 definitely had these unique characters with their own gimmicks you had to overcome; trying to figure out how to find The End hiding in the forest, getting your ammo detonated by Volgin, etc.

It's Metal Gear Solid did nobody tell you your playing a game with a crazy convolouted plot and numerous superhuman and mystical enemies that barely and most of the time are not grounded in reality? The skulls are crazy I know just run like hell from em.

No, because the stand alone demo thing from last year didn't have any of this weirdness in it - what I saw there was a normal stealth game.
Need something akin to Silent Hill 2's Dog ending.
