Dead on arrival.

MGO (Metal Gear Online) is dead. FOB missions which entail raiding other players' bases for staff and resources is still active. I would practice by doing the FOB events against the computer that are on rotation to learn the different platforms (they all have slightly different layouts and ideal pathing options will vary based on the types of soldiers stationed at the FOBs). You'll also start stacking event points which can be used to buy high-ranked soldiers or resources you're low on.

Personally think the FOB missions are super fun.

Depends what day and time of the day you are playing. Is it dead-dead? No. There is usually two or three lobbies. Mostly there are two. Be warned: there are cheaters. I try to play MGO on a daily basis.

On PS4 I could get matches consistently when I tried it out

No intention of hijacking the thread, but ... would you happen to know how long it'll be before that feature goes offline?

I personally loathe all kinds of competitive multiplayer and have put MGS5 on hold after starting shortly post release of the game... until this "feature" finally goes away.

That won't ever happen. Unlike with MGS4 and MGS3 (sweet times), the online component of MGSV has microtransactions. There are dozens of online exclusive items to develop that take weeks to finish and to accelerate those you need MB coins. Some people fall into the trap of purchasing MB coins to accelerate the process.

I haven't, though, but there you have the reason why it will never go offline. That profit alone justifies it.

You can play offline with a mod, you don't need to wait. I believe Infinite Heaven allows you to start always in offline mode.

You can also create an outboud traffic rule for MGSV in windows firewall. Search how to, and please do it in DuckDuckGo, not Google.

Definitely recommend installing SnakeBite Mod Manager and Infinite Heaven if you plan on playing offline. There's a few mods that make the gameplay much more enjoyable/ more like MGS of old. Definitely turn off reflex mode.

Thank you for that hint! (Also @trembo) I didn't know there was a mod protecting me from losing single-player stuff to multiplayer invasions that I have no intention of ever initiating or defending against.
