This game is proof that most game journalists are morons who can't be trusted.
Hey, at least it got glowing reviews from non-gamers.

Little did the devs realise that SJWs don't actually play video games, they're too busy getting triggered by them. Oops!

What a ridiculous statement.
Wow. I think my brain is leaking out my ears a bit from reading this thread. :conwayfacepalm::percy:
This is one of the worst games ever made. It could have been good if it had a writer, a coder, and voice actors. Instead it was written by Swedish > English Google Translate, voice acted by an idiot, and coded by someone who hasn't made a video game since 1992. At least, if those people were those things this game has an excuse for being so unbelievably bad in every way. I'd really give it points for visual style if the art director knew what things like a rug, a bed, or a patio look like.

I'm in this thread because TotalBiscuit mentioned it on one of his old videos. This game is so bad it sends me back from the far corners of the internet to complain about it.

I was initially really excited by this title when it was announced, but in retrospect the coverage was basically "our friend is making this game". It really ressembles the coverage Gone Home got, except Gone Home was actually well made even if it was somewhat disappointing compared to the hype.

I'd compare this to depression quest.

It's proof that game journalists are corrupt, self-hating morons. They're hate gamers - they hate the fact that most games are all about shooting guns and stabbing people with swords and setting them on fire with flamethrowers or magic fireballs, and most of all they're desperate to portray themselves as ultra-progressive modern feminist social justice warriors.

So they give games like this glowing reviews, calling them deep and unique. It's an attempt to make themselves seem artistic. Deep. Progressive.

It doesn't work. Any gamer or game reviewer that tells me this game is good immediately goes on my list of "people to never take seriously, ever".

It's a game about walking around a house. Don't try to tell me this is deep, artistic or in any way good. It's boring. It sucks. Just like every other game regressive feminist SJW's have ever made.

The "problem" is that games journalism is notoriously underpaid. But, according to SuperBunnyHop (on his podcast) it's still better paid than regular journalism. So games writers that want to go "mainstream" are screwed.

SuperBunnyHop has a journalism degree but found out that it's more profitable doing youtube gaming critique than actual real writing for an established print newspaper.

The average pay for a Top 10 article you see on Gawker/Buzzfeed/IGN/Etc? $15.

It's hardly worth trying to do it as a career. Then you have to factor in nearly everybody else doing it for free. Blogs, websites, youtube.... All for free. No salary. No wonder the main websites have degenerated into mindless clickbait, flagrant PR pieces and shilled content. They can't survive otherwise.

So yeah. The Devs bought into the whole "I can PR your game to a totally different audience that doesn't buy games!!" and got taken. They're out of business because they were told they had a guaranteed way to sell snow to the Eskimos.

So they take bribes and "gifts" in exchange for good reviews.

Pretty much, yeah. There's no other realistic way of getting paid. The Ad revenue model died years ago.

Unless you're a "big" site such as IGN or Gamespot (which survives by being pretty much paid PR) there's a shelflife to your site. Ever notice how the big sites never give large publishers negative reviews? Why bite the hand that feeds, right? Better to savage an Indie game instead. They can't pay for full site ads anyway.

No other industry is so reliant on the people they report on to keep them afloat.
No wonder backhanders and shilling is rife.

That's why I literally haven't read a single review from a "proper" reviewer for years.
I actually WASTED 16 hours on this game to get all the Steam achievements, but hell yeah this game is c r a p UX wise - ok I admit, they did not test the game at all and controls and everything gaming related sucks. One thing was interesting to read though, her diary. It was pretty well written.
You know, I have long thought: to write it or not…
I don't want to incite the abuse. I don't want to spoil relations with someone. Therefore, I will not reply to your answers. You can write anything you want after. Nevertheless, I want to say something in defense of the game, its authors and journalists against absurd attacks.

Yes, in this game there is no gameplay. But the game without gameplay does not necessarily have to be bad.
I had heard so much, that such games can kill the industry. Moshi-moshi, don't lose the connection: we have a plenty such games. Only two words: VISUAL NOVELS. History of this genre is more than twenty years. Many of such games deserve highest ratings. And nothing collapsed.
The Sunset, for me, is a visual novel. And the story is the text, when the heroine writes a diary. Everything else (cleaning of the apartment, and so on) is an optional addition to create visuals.
You can tell, the story is too slow? Many visual novels is quite slow. They are often verbose. For a genre, it's okay.
You might argue that the visual novel should have erotic/love content? Not necessary. But Sunset, surprisingly, has it. The whole idea of the game is a love story. And the heroine, as for me, so cute, and sometimes we can see her in a rather attractive outfits.

The industry is very diverse. Perhaps even more diverse than many people think. And nobody has the right to monopolize opinion about what should be considered a game.
Audiences of different genres can not be crossed. I do not see a problem in that some games are different from others.
Those who think otherwise, at least, makes too much drama.
At least. :NorminGreen:

I said everything that I think and will no longer write in the topic. Good mood to you all.

No ones talking about the game being a visua novel, people are talking about the game being ♥♥♥♥ + the story being ♥♥♥♥ yet the game getting over hyped praise for no reason at all.

I agree that Blissful Cow does not understand the problem here.
