Hope it helps but during the cog gate fight you can turn around that statue near the gate after you turn the wheel to block the majority of he enemies from getting to you.
Anyway I feel your pain. To me it feels like RE6 all over again. Too much gun blazing and not nearly enough ammo for the type of gameplay they were going for unless you spam Moira's aforementioned combo for the first few hours.
Unfortunately there will be more of those moments where they just throw a bunch of enemies against you just for the sake of having things to use your ammo against. Really a step back from Rev1 of you ask me.
RER2 is not completely terrible, but it is sewn together from a lot of other RE games in terms of plot, level design, and even gameplay, and it shows. (When I learnt how the main villain is called, I just rolled my eyes.) It has its moments though, but yes, it generally has a weaker campaign than RER1. As for its raid mode, opinions differ. I prefer RER1, but the raid here has a good design for those who love to grind. (And contrary to popular belief, many players love to do that.)
Examples:
RE 1 Lack of ammo and no clue on where to go first
RE 2 Already starts surrounded by zombies and lacking ammo until you get to RPD
RE 3 Same as RE 2, and gets harder if you decide to fight nemesis the first time.
RE Code Veronica same as above... You start surrounded and without a gun.
RE 4 Must survive that ganado horde until a bell rings so they run away.
RE 5 Almost like RE4, you have to survive a Majini horde until the helicopter arrives.
RE6... Nope, this one doesnt have a harsh start at all
P.S. Just keep playing the game won't be like this after you escape the prison with Claire
Tip: You can hide bellow the spinning blade thing on the flame thrower room and wait until all the monsters suicide on the blades (use Claire)
