I don't know where did you hear or read that RER is much shorter than RER2, but that's not true at all. Both campaigns are roughly the same length, and if you want to get through RER2 story fast you can play on Easy and you'll be probably done with it in about 6 hours.

By the way, the RER2 campaign is actually shorter. Each episode lasts about 10-12 minutes on average after the first play through.
I also have Moira without beating the campaign here, but that may be because I have that costume DLC? The only other characters I'd really care about are Pedro ('cause he's funny) and Gina ('Cause she apparently has a Lady HUNK outfit? I'm guessing that it doesn't have Rev 1's voices for it?) so I might try to unlock those if it's not too annoying.
Depending on how much you want to get into raid, you'll need all characters. One of the two daily challenges randomly picks a mandatory character, and those challenges have the best money/time ratios. Getting the final medal of unlocking every skill on one character needs you to level each of them to at least to the point where you can inherit their character-specific skill.
But if you can live with only one daily a day and focusing only some skills on a few characters, then you can skip the entire campaign, yes.
By the way, make sure to have Wesker and HUNK, both have ridiculously broken special skills. And stay away from the DLC gauntlet maps, they are terrible.
1) Where are the dlc gaunlet maps?
2)Ive never had a character specific daily that wasn't a character I'd already had unlocked. Actually, I've only ever had it be Gina, Wesker, and Pedro.
2) They seem to be random. The daily missions revealed me that Alex is a character in Raid long before I had a chance to unlock her.
