X Rebirth doesn't start anymore

I am trying to play X Rebirth and the game worked fine in the past.
Now when I try to start the game through steam it won't even load or start.
Nothing happens. Steam says the game is active which then turns off and I can launch it again.

I tried everything from restarting, to reinstalling to Intertigy Check. I updated windows, I updated the graphic card drivers.

The only option seems to be to re-install windows but I don't want to do that. I can play Star Citizen just fine on high graphics. My machine should be fine to play X Rebirth.

Has anyone else have these problems?

I haven't. For starters, you should do the following:
- move the "extensions" folder elsewhere, so X Rebirth does not start with any mods.
- if it still does not start, try the debug options. Add these parameters to the launch options: -debug all -logfile debug.log -- with that, a "debug.log" file will be created on X Rebirth's main directory, where you can check for errors.
- once you get X Rebirth to run, copy one by one each extensions/ subfolder so that the mod is again activated, until you find the one that made X Rebirth stop starting (if that was the problem, anyway).

Ah, btw. Maybe the launch parameter -skipintro helps somehow; it skips the egosoft intro and goes straight to the game.

All right, I tried the -debug all -logfile debug.log
A file was created and when viewing.. only one line of text is there:
Logfile started, time Tue Dec 26 19:38:07 2017

That's it.

I also tried -skipintro, it doesn't seem to have effect.
I also am running the game without extensions.

Well. That's weird. What's your hardware and software? Which Windows, which GPU, which drivers, etc...? Are you running Windows in 64-bit mode?

Windows 10 64-bit, Geforce 970, latest drivers.

Something looks wrong with the config.xml file. Geforce Exp. wants to optimize the graphic settings but can't change the settings.

I hope this fixes it, I want to play X Rebirth. Now I'm stuck with star citizen ;)

I had same symptoms with other games on Steam.
Sometimes I had to manually delete game's executable and shared library files and re-download them by checking game cache. It probably something to do with Steam DRM protection.

did u try to delite egosoft folder from Documents?

I have tried deleting that folder too, it creates a new folder and all. But the game stil isn't starting.

@Nunoko Any luck with DependencyWalker? It should tell if you miss any important DLLs.
Also you should be able to see More descriptive error messages in Windows Event Log.

@Nunoko Just a thought, if you played X:R before, your save files and game configs were synced to Steam Cloud. Try to disable Steam Cloud feature for X:R, delete X:Rebirth folder from Documents. You can also check\delete Steam Cloud settings for X:R in this folder:

Steam/UserData/..your_ID_numbers../2870/remotecache.vdf

Restart Steam Client after that and try to start the game.
