Voice Language: English vs Russian vs Ukranian

I am a huge fan of the Metro series. I love that a rag tag team from Ukraine can put a AAA title together and have it defy all expectations. Even better, the game sidesteps so many western gaming tropes which creates a truly unique experience. Here's my dilemima: I am doing a ranger playthrough of both M:2033 and M:LL and and really want to use the ORIGINAL VO. The studio is from Ukraine so is the Ukranian VO the original? Most people say to play in the Russian VO.....or did the studio know they needed to pander to the US audiences .....so is the English VO the original? All help is appreciated. Super pumped for Metro Exodus!

Technically speaking, the Russian VO would be the "original", or at the very least the way it's intended to be played, since the game is set in Russia. Even then, I play with the audio in English, if only so I can understand it better than by just having subtitles.

The more research I do that's what im thinking. Thanks! I am finishing my Ranger playthrough of LL then will probably play through again on English. Too bad M: E got delayed until 2019 but oh well all games could use more time in the oven....and if the Witcher 3 taught us anything its to not rush greatness.

I play it in Spanish, but if that language is not there, I think it's much better in English. In my opinion.

English VO is simply horrendous for all of these games. The "Hollywood" style Russian accent is beyond disgusting. It's only good for those not used to reading subtitles, like me. But at this point, it's basically cringy, to the poing of breaking immersion.

And yes. Technically speaking, the fact that developers were based in Ukraine barely means that It's the first language on the list to be considered the "original" VO. A lot of people from different countries and origins worked on this game, not to mention that It's hard to find a Ukranian person not speaking Russian. Either way, the HQ's been moved out of the country a few years ago.

You better play in ukrainian, as this artificial language (created by freemasons and forced to people to divide and conquer another piece of russia) based on mix of polish, czech and russian, you can understand like 70-80% of it if you will adjust to less latinised and more clear and russian like pronounciation. Recently at my linguo-hystorical study to prove my theories i performed experiment and tried to talk with test group of people from poland and czech and othe slavic countries in our native languages, and funny this is that czechs was able to understand like half of what i said in russian, while i with knowledge of modern and old russian managed to understand about 80% of what they said, but when i had to explain something they could not understand i used modern ukrainian words as they had same roots as czech and polish and people from czech and poland was able to undestand more, up to 80%, without any translation or explaination by other words. So most likely you will understand 60-80% of ukrainian after some adjustment of hearing and interpretation of what you hear.

Considering how terrible English translation and voiceover are, no. It wasn't intended to be played in English. If your only language is English, worse for your then.

That is an opinion. Like i said, if you knew anything about hte development of this game and the dev, it was intended for English and english audiences primarily. Atleast do some reaseach before commenting.

Yes, I do know about Its story and the development cycle since 2001. I'm also well aware of THQ and how "westeners" almost destroyed the project. Still, it turned out to be released crippled with a lot of cut corners because of it.
