Years later, techs still disappear for no apparent reason. Any solutions?
So I got back from some distant exploration and was puzzled as to why my manufacturing base wasn't visible on approach. Normally it causes a little lag when it loads in. This time, no lag. The icons on the minimap and the world map were there, indicating multiple techs and SCUs. But the base and vehicles were gone.

The tech manager shows blank thumbnails next to what I assume are the missing techs. If I use the tech manager to recall the techs, the blocks do not go into my inventory. I tried looking through my other save files for that world, and apparently they are all corrupt in this regard.

I'm seeing posts from 2017 discussing this bug. I'm not finding any solutions. Has anyone gotten to the bottom of this?

I haven't even seen the devs respond to the posts about it sadly but people still mention it regularly.
I even offered to send in saves because the bug is persistent once it hits.

It's very lame to have an entire base suddenly evaporate.

It really is. I was enthusiastic about the Space Junkers update, and was thinking about how much I like the game and the devs for still updating it. Then seeing that horrible bug had wasted many hours of work completely killed the enthusiasm.

Just curious, do you use mods? I know at one point one of the mods I used was taking off for awhile, so any blocks that would use it were gone.

I was only using skin mods at this time. I've since removed them.

That could be why the blocks are missing now.

I've never used mods, but as far as I can tell it's another one of the many bugs when the game re-loads your techs after leaving the area they are in. I've even seen it happen to enemy techs in quests.

I removed the mods after the issue occurred. I’ve tried reloading with and without mods, across multiple save files. Based on this being an issue since 2017 or earlier, with devs looking into it back then and not figuring it out, I’m guessing mods were ruled out as a cause.

Additionally, when I ran more serious mods like Greentech and its dependencies, then loaded a mod save without the mods, the behavior was different.

Oof. Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet, but yeah, that must suck. It's one of the reasons why I copypasted all my vehicles as well as my base into a seperate creative save, just so that I'd be able to keep them secure in case they get corrupted in my campaign save. No idea if this actually works since I haven't experienced that bug for myself yet, but I figured it won't hurt to try as an attempt to future-proof.

Like, if the campaign save gets corrupted, I'm hoping that it won't affect the creative save, and all my stuff will still be fine in creative, so then if the game has a valid point from which it can load all my stuff maybe it'll even keep it safe in campaign. Of course it could also go the other way, that if the techs get corrupted in my campaign save, the corruption could also spread to my creative backup save and ruin that too, but no way to know which way it'll go until I get a chance to test it. Which is kinda hard since there's no easy and clear way to reproduce it, except for the rather vague "explore very far away from your base".

I'm not sure if it would affect creative mode. But I can tell you that if you've saved the techs, they can still be loaded as long as you have the blocks, which I assume is a non-issue in creative.

To deal with the loss of blocks, I edited the save file to give myself 99,000,000 BB and just spam-purchased all sorts of blocks I had used in the techs that were lost. I was able to load replacement copies after that. But things like harvesters with fabricators need to be set up to produce the desired resource blocks again.

I just got the game recently and have completed the campaign without mods.

I would say about 10 hrs in I decided to try base building and created a small mining base to collect a passive income, (unfortunately when far enough away the base stops working) and after couple hrs of questing I return and the base was gone.

After that I completed the game without permanent bases only loading them in when needed and collecting them when it was time to move.

I really wanted to create a large everything in one base like a saw on some youtube channels but I didn't want to waste my time and resources.

Sorry for your lost base.

does the selector in native options for saving as json instead of rawtech make a difference?

The Discord bug reports forum currently still many reports about invisible techs. Recently the devs said, "We believe we've tracked this to an unintended change in build machine setup". So maybe they are on the trail.

We have made techs reappear by reducing the size and correcting any logic errors and anchoring errors, but it doesn't always work, and of course, that only works when you have another player present that can see the tech to fix it or scrap it, as the invisible error in multiplayer predominantly hides the tech from the non-host player(s).

its not a bug, its a feature.... auto-stealth.... (tried for exclamation, but the font makes it look dumb....)

this has happened to me 3 times now on an unmodded save, ive had a few mining + refining + selling bases for Erudite near to each other, and i travel away often or just between them (some just out of load range from others). this most recent time everything was reset around the area (Erudite outcrops even respawned), aside from 1 auto miner, still going at it.

5 now. im at the point im making a save every 20 -30 minutes and checking the manage techs menu every 5 -10 to see if any have gone blank so i can reload when they do. since for some reason when this happens sending the tech to your inventory doesn't return anything
