How do I revert to the previous version?
Is there really no way to revert to the previous version? I was really frustrated when I opened the game today—the camera angles and visual experience are completely different from before. But I need to record a video, and it has to match my previous videos. Is there a solution?

It's a bit of a hassle, but you can roll back to 0.38 by first switching to the 0.34.7_win7_no_updates beta branch (so that Steam doesn't just update it back to 0.39 again) and then overwriting that with a manually downloaded 0.38 depot manifest from SteamDB. There's instructions online for how to find and download the right manifests, but the short version is that you should paste the manifest code (
download_depot 284160 284161 90495859774692543
for 0.38.6, the last version before 0.39) into the Steam client console. Once that finishes downloading (it will take a bit), cut/copy those files and paste them in BeamNG's install directory to overwrite the 0.34.7 files and you should be good to go.

The one notable side effect I've encountered in doing this myself (my computer can't run 0.39) is that you also get the old Sunburst back in addition to the new one because its internal name got changed (so it doesn't just get overwritten by the new one when you paste the 0.38 files on top of 0.34). Everything else seems to just be back to regular 0.38 as far as I can tell.

Okay, I'll give it a try. Thank you very much. I just tried downloading the previous version in the console, but it showed “Depot download failed: Failed to write patch state file (File locked).”

That's strange, I honestly have no idea what would cause that, sorry. I wonder if a different manifest would work (maybe 0.38.5)?

I did find a guide with a bit more detail on how this procedure should work, though it's not for BeamNG specifically: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=889624474
