Too much DLC, what should i get?
There's so many things to pick from. Which ones are just cosmetic and which ones add more playable content to the game?

Every single DLC adds playable content except for Winter Costume DLC and the three song packs.

the "Game of the Year Every Year" bundle would be my recommendation.

First and foremost recommendation would be the card packs, as they overall increase the viability of your deck building, which would apply to every character you own.

The DLC characters I'd recommend once you got used to the game. Some of them are rather gimmicky, but they introduce interesting gameplay.

Some DLC unlocks its own campaign, which gives its own rewards and cosmetics upon completion.

If you're just getting started, it's better to focus on unlocking stuff in the base game while you get used to it before you consider DLC at all. Once you do, I agree card packs are more important. When it comes to characters, recommendations are more subjective.

As Krofinn and Hinalyte suggested; Game of the Year bundle and card packs are probably your best choice.

You might look to getting early character DLC as it's a bit more straightforward and don't require a deeper understanding of OJ mechanics. Last thing I'd want to see is a new player getting excited after buying a character but regret it because they're not sure how their gimmick works.

Are any achivements tied to the dlc?

Yes.

I think every character DLC has achievements tied to it.

Card DLCs too. The only DLCs without achievements are the cosmetic one and the song packs mentioned earlier.

As cheap as they are, it won't hurt to nab whatever character packs you like just for a single characters' sake.

In all honesty, buy who you want to buy for DLC, the one that speaks to you the most would be my recommendation

Definitely do buy the card packs though, as they add alot of extra value to your deckbuilding.

Don't buy anything. DLCs are overpowered and pay to win. Too many things monetized considering how much work it already takes to unlock things. And this game is completely unfair on a fundamental level. Basically, you need high attack power and HP or a strong gimmick in order to defeat the RNG at all. Back when I was playing, Star Breaker was the best character pretty much. They nerfed Tomomo who was an unlockable character yet Star Breaker is better than pre-nerf Tomomo.

It's worth noting that the game has 2 DLC characters available to play for free on a weekly rotation, so you can use that to see who you like playing

Star Breaker is a good example of a noob trap. Playing as her can be fun, but buying her DLC because you expect to steamroll over everything is a bad idea.

If you play to win in such an RNG heavy game then you're setting yourself up for a salty time. Instead you should just embrace the chaos and cause as much trouble as possible. Winning should be an added bonus.

Also, you might want to switch out Starbo for Kae. Kae has more cards that synergize with her passive and can brute force a victory easier than Starbo.

I don't care about winning or losing online so it's fun to mess with other people as her lol. So much rage.
