Defender: Characters with +1, +2, +3 def
Healer: Natsumi is the number 1 healer cause her passive, but other characters with +1 or +2 evade are also good, Cook is the 2nd best because of her high evade and her hyper for rolling double dice for every action except combat.
Avenger: Popo is the most generic cause her high HP, Fernt as well, Miusaki cause her passive, Lazy Tomomo is very OP avenger
Dealer: Nico is the most OP cause her hyper but luck based, Lazy tomomo cause her ice cream, Mei cause Red & Blue, Yuuki cause her hyper, Yuki for traps + passive, Lulu for her hyper
These are just some characters I've seen and played as before, and imo the best suitabled for each role.
Sherry is pretty okay for avenger as she always goes second, which means she is able to utilize the damage buff for taking damage most of the time. She also has +1 base ATK, which means she can reach +2 by taking just 1 damage for that to happen, whereas other characters may need to take 2-3 damage to achieve a same attack strength, and at norma 3 she still has 5 REC, which is decent enough for a character with +1 to everything.
Anyone can be supporter, as long as the situation calls for that. I've tried Tequila supporter before M10 was even nerfed, and that worked quite well because his hyper can shred M10 Shield. Natsumi, evasive characters, and those ones who can make use of the extra MOV are just generally well-rounded for anything, and you won't go wrong with them.
Nath can be a potential powerhouse if her armor is stacked soon enough and she doesn't die too often in early games, which will generally need a Dealer to achieve, but once there, for attacker, she has +4 ATK with a mere 6 REC, and for defender, she still retains +2 ATK whilst having +4 DEF to take some hits.
Here's my take:
Base Characters(non DLC/bonus)
Attacker:
Great- Marc (positive defense with a useful hyper) Kai (hyper makes him hard to be killed for 3 chapters) Store Manager (+2atk with high hp and neutral defense, has useful hyper)
Good- Suguri (fragile, but has +2evd and powerful hyper) Tomomo (+2atk and neutral defense and evade, however is reliant on Guardians and Supports and has a "terrible" hyper) QP (Neutral attack means lower Rec, going first allows her to use both parts of her Hyper) Sora (Powerful Hyper) Mio (high hp, neutral atk for lower rec, situational hyper that is expensive, makes good use of role hypers)
Guardian:
Great- Peat (Iron makes him much more survivable, has powerful hyper) Marc (same as Peat) Fernet (obvious) Store Manager (+2atk with 6hp and useful hyper)
Good- Sora (no comment) Roboball (Low Rec, Inexpensive Hyper) Mio (Her stats make her flexible, just don't expect Iron to do anything for her, makes good use of role hypers)
Support:
Great- Fernet (High Hp and Tanky, making her survivable so she can get around the board to heal people without getting KO'd)
Good- Suguri (Has +2evd and a hyper that can make her move further) Sora (benefits from the extra evd) Mio (Her stats make her flexible, makes good use of role hypers) Chicken (Extremely low Rec, hyper gives stars)
Avenger:
Great- Yuki (Avenger's Higher HP gives more damage to her Hyper, +2atk makes her hit hard) Marie Poppo (Really high HP) Sora (good stats, powerful hyper) Fernet (High HP and Defense, -2evd allows for easily botching to take damage) Mio (High HP, makes good use of role hypers, "poor man's Krilalaris")
Good- QP (no comment) Shifu Robot (Has HP regen, Avenger's higher health means more potential damage with their Hyper, From Beyond allows them to use their hyper more safely) {Yes, I am aware Shifu was nerfed, hence why I didn't also put them in the Attacker section}
Dealer:
Great- QP (Her Hyper is very useful for attackers) Kai (Hyper gives 3 chapters of nigh-unkillableness, which is very useful for attackers, but applicable to almost anyone) Peat (bigger hand size means more damage with his Hyper, Hyper is an inexpensive powerful in-battle stat boost)
Good- Sora (Hyper is expensive, but powerful) Chicken (lots of Deck Points, hyper gives Stars) Suguri (same as Sora)
There are too many DLC&Bonus Characters to sift through, so I won't go over them for now, might make another post later going over them. (probably won't, honestly)
Attacker:
#1 Kae (God-tier suicide-attacker).
#2 Star Breaker (Huge REC, must be kept alive with Shields & Revivals).
#3 Anything with +1 or +2 ATK but 5-6 natural REC at most.
#4 Anything with 0 ATK and 5 or less REC. The sturdier they are, the better.
Defender:
#1 Fernet (Simply unkillable, good hyper).
#2 Anything with 5+ HP and +2 DEF.
#3 Anything with 5+ HP and +1 DEF.
#4 Anything with 6-8 HP and 0 DEF.
Support:
#1 Lone Rider (exellent speed and stats).
#2 Cook (good hyper, can achieve +4 EVD).
#3 Natsumi (great passive, great hyper).
#4 Anything (ideally sturdy, such a +1 or +2 DEF tanks) with 4-5 REC or less.
#5 Anything that revives with 0-4 REC (except Shifu Robot).
Avenger:
#1 Krilla (good HP pool, good stats, good 5 REC).
#2 Arthur (better HP pool, slightly worse stats & REC).
#3 Anything with 5+ HP and 0+ DEF, and ideally 5 or less REC.
Dealer:
#N/A - Cannot be ranked globally, they are too niche and perform extremely poorly in a global comparison. A dealer can patch up your team's weakness or bolster it's strenght in certain ways if they are compatible and you play as a team, but if the Dealer is incompatible, they are dead weight.
A dealer can only be useful in certain ways:
-Drawing field-damage cards such as "Long-Distance Shot" vs Swimming Coach's minions.
-Drawing your own Hypers that are powerful against the Boss. (X10 Rocket/Final Surgery/Air Strike/etc vs Swimming Coach, or Ubiquitous vs Star Devourer when attempting to bankrupt it.)
-Providing Hypers that would aid or be much more useful in the hands of a team-member.
Other tactics exist, such as attempting to give Mei's Red & Blue to allies, but they take exeedingly long and are no replacement for a stable team with 1-2 Attackers and/or Avengers, a Defender and Support. With the buffs being neglegible at best for the effort required.
So yeah, Dealer sucks, 99% of the time. It was very handy vs Hyper Swimming Coach though, with Dealer-Fernet (DPS+$$$), Dealer-Kiriko ($$$), Dealer-Marc (DPS on Balloon Boy) and maybe a Support Suguri ??B (to be Dealt cards to double the effect of).
They just suck if they aren't tailor-made to suit a certain purpose.
Attacker: I play a variety of them and am usually am Support anyway, they mostly feel about the same now amongst +1 or +2 atk chars. Play whom you like for this
Defender: With no hp cost there's hardly good or bad options, but I definitely like Fernet here.
Support: Mixed Poppo, no competition, it's not even close
Makes money for existing, most bosses and maps have warps that can be easily guided to, she is bulkier than Halena or Rider at full hp, and from her Star gen makes the entire team level up faster, just by existing.
Her hyper makes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money proportional to norma so your team can spam cards freely, even quickly beating Hyper bosses without norma level 4 or moving herself or her team into positions for multiple revives, multiple heals or even multiple battles. Your entire team will have more options for moving to kill mobs or attack. The boss itself will move more often causing it to battle more thus dying faster.
She might not fight the best but Rider doesn't make money. Also she has a ton of Deck Points.
The only issue with mixed poppo is she's not the best fighter but with bulk and cards can prod at the shielded bosses or Coach's minions. When you play with a good one you'll notice not having her. She is insane. The pick for ending games quickly. If your team gets to level 5 you also get infinite stars.
Avenger goes to a few, Mixpo/Poppo again, Arthur for supporting the team is my preference
Dealer...depends on the situation. I don't know why people downplay them, they're respectable now.
Nath is one of the most consistent and strong (try Dealer math with Dealer Momo Casual or Mei) But Scramble Aru is a good pick for easy stars.
Giving dashes to the supporter, Fires to Kae or Quick restorations to the Avengers without them having to use card panels so they can focus on the fight is nothing to scoff at and Dealers as a whole are pretty respectable now. Not to mention many of the Hyper synergies enabled by combining characters in Co-Op. A good Dealer will keep everyone's hands full while not being useless at fighting if they need to. There's always some strong team synergy that can be figured out.
Attackers: Nath is the best if you have a Dealer, Kae is the slap on disposable soldier that I'm always nursing to health. Starbo is a popular+2 with no character specific downsides really.
Defender: Fernet, Halena to not get hit by 1s, Kyoko, Suguri V2 still. Stay alive longer to keep the team alive longer.
Support: Mixpo for above average in every aspect and if you want to win as soon as possible.
Lone Rider if you want positive instead of negative in every stat, or need minions dead. Be aware of Star usage for reviving.
Halena on certain maps and vs Coach
Either Aru for +3 evd and team support
Sora Suguri for combat medic.
Natsumi for more healing and money from it. Your Avengers will really appreciate this.
Avenger honorable mention: Castle with Little War is capable of truly unholy damage, punishes the bosses if the game lingers, hard to lose a game with the damage it pumps out alone.
Do not use Vs Coach.
Dealer: hard to be specific, team composition affects Dealer most.
Casual momo if the core team has someone with positive defense. You can give them power.
Mei if there's another Dealer and your only offense isn't Avenger
Nath for anything
Syrua if you're running Avengers too, love to see it (pair with natsumi and two avengers for lolz)
Later in the post I called Ocean Dive the map for Hyper Jonathan too. I always get those two mixed up, and lately I've been second-guessing the right combination and getting them wrong because of that!
Why are all three of the bosses unrelated to Mio themed around large bodies of water anyway?
Oh right, I forgot there was a canonical link between Jonathan, Summer Beast and Swimming Coach.
another mention should go to teotoratta who has better stats than iru but a near useless hyper, however REC 3 with 7hp at norma 4 is nothing to scoff at.
Lastly, Sherry should also be mentioned as a useful avenger (especially vs minion spam bosses) due to her natural tankiness (haruo is coming to mind). with her passive she is effectively a guaranteed +2 fighter so she is very helpful for minion control despite being an avenger (which is something not many can claim). 5 rec (at norma 3) isn t great ofc but it could be a lot worse.
