That said, don't despair. The original process for those of us who predate the "Retired Events" tab was much rougher.
What?
From what I remember, you could skip the Master of the Minions event almost entirely by waiting for other players to whittle the boss counter down, and when it reaches 0 play 1 online co-op game to unlock the extra mission and Mio. (That's how I got some friends to unlock Mio near the end of the event, since I was worried they wouldn't make Mio unlockable normally for awhile.)
Mystery Bag (Rad) -> Killing Big Poppo as Poppo (normal mode only, Cyborg) -> Killing 12 poppo-mask units (did not receive Tuxedo) -> Killing 3 bosses (Dapper) -> Restarting the game (Tuxedo, triggered at main menu).
It should be the same for unlocking Mio - no need to redo. Again, this is just my thoughts, not sure if it indeed uses a different mechanism.
