Like I said in the OP, I also played 3-4 matches with each of these character in Normal mode, and the play count is still at 0 :c
That and yeah, some stats (or all of em) may be restricted to Versus only, not in co-op.
That said, what constitutes as an "online" game is sketchy at times. Some people reportedly host a 1-player lobby and get what they want that way. Others just manage to accuire some things offline.
Typically though, what's considered "online" for many purposes is if there's atleast 2 players in the same lobby, or that there recently have been 2 or more people in the lobby, playing, if they left before the game ended for some reason.
Though if the time between where all the other players have left and the game ending is too large, it'll count at the end as a "singleplayer" game. For a little while is fine but if it stays empty for too long, then yeah...
So i guess achievements don't care about online/offline. Just cosmetics and such, mainly. And stats too, probably.
