"Cant launch Quake Live (app already running)"
Ok so I googled this issue and it seems there is no good solution. Here's the thing: I can't launch Quake Live because "the app is already running", which is obviously not true. If I reboot my pc and freshly after restart when i go for processes Quake is already running! Even though I didnt even launch steam. People trying to fix this problem led me to the "awesomium process" which is constantlu running and causing this but I cant shut this process down either. So now I'm stuck. Cant uninstall Quake, cant run it, cant stop it from virtually running, cant shut down steam (cause it wants me to shut down quake first). WTF

In task manager clic "show all users processes" then end awesomium process tree" it works

you can also try "TASKKILL /IM awesomium_process.exe /F" in the command line

have fun

Ok so I got it fixed by launching Windows in safe mode, it's the only way to start the system without that damn awesomium process launching quake automaticly. So launch your windows in safe mode and uninstall Quake Live. I havent tried reinstalling Quake after that because I'm so pissed at it right now but maybe it will work

i had this issue. it would load crash, the ql.exe wouldn't close, and then any future attempt to load from desktop would mean its already running / uix86.dll was unable to write (because it was in use)...

i erased like 90% of the things on my computer, i believe the main issue was my antivirus (avast).
Instead of using the desktop shortcut, go to the steam app and click play from there. That works for me when this happens. Another way that works is if you play a different game then exit out of that, the problem will move to that app instead. Hope this helped.:steamhappy:

I just ran into this problem last week and the exact same situation you have described in your post. Just in case if this happens to anyone else here is what I did. I didnt find it anywhere online but it worked for me.

Boot the system up in the SAFE MODE. Go to your disc C or whatever the game is located; search for "awesomium" and delete all the ".dll" files. I think there will be about 6 of them that I deleted (dont forget to remove them from the Recycle Bin!). I think I also deleted quakelive.exe so you might want to do that as well. Then start your PC normally and the game shall run no more at least when you are not in it. What you might also want to to do is to "verify the integrity of the game files" in your library at the end.

This is hot I managed to kill that quakelive_steam.exe process without deleting all the in-game settings/configs.
