game sucks
These type of games need to stop being made.
Anyone who plays a game like this should be thrown in a pit.

Ok this one is valid
Looks like a sort of Q3A clone as far as the map features go, but made in Unity. That's probably got some rough input lag.

It has some pretty unique pickups and mechanics with both the maps and the weapons and utility items. Some maps are goofy, but there are a lot of really superb ones and you can easily set up a comp playlist like me and my friends have.

Idk though, I like arena shooters and if there is a good one I want to support it so that the genre can potentially have a comeback. Which is the reason I made the post here in the first place.
Its cool that a multiplayer arena shooter is being played, i just wish it was something a little less goofy, and with TDM and CTF so i can play it after my 9 to 5.

Edit: It can be goofy, just want some TDM and CTF

Yeah I get that. Me and my friend actually went through all of the maps and picked only ones we deemed competitive, then taking it more seriously was a lot more fun and easier to do. There are plenty of map and power control elements that feel just like quake imo. Like it feels really great to control a powerful weapon spawn and not let the opponent get it. Specifically guns like the AK47 or AR.

But anyways yeah I also want TDM and CTF bad, I hope the dev adds it
it has some maps that are ass, but its actually pretty fun.
I think it serves its purpose well:

Bite-sized games that any skill level can jump into and goof around in due to the unbalanced pickups and random nature.

I don't think it would ever serve as an alternative for AFPS fans currently active. To be blunt, a game like quake live is just much better and rewarding in the long term.
I've been playing Straftat recently as I haven't had time to make QL worthwhile. I think it is the wrong lens to see it as succeeding Quake or as an AFPS "revival" game. The stable existence of Quake Live, nonexpanding AFPS genre interest, and its basically perfect design more or less make this aim obsolete. If you are reading this thread and play Quake Live instead of asking if it's dead and are wondering if Straftat is better at being a hardcore, muscular AFPS the answer is emphatically no. In particular the P2P technology of the game frequently leads to lag. However, if you nonetheless are interested in the prospect of a simple, casual, but fast duel AFPS with strange maps and weapons, which also takes cues from CoD and Halo, this might be for you.
Played a few rounds, looks horrible, plays horrible.

Have just returned to quake after 20 odd years off and the only thing I felt Straftat did well was having voice comms built in.

Then I found that voice comms are available on some servers in quake live so Straftat got itself deleted.

Me and my friends actually made a playlist that only has what we think are comp viable weapons and maps. We have had little tourney sessions of just us and our other friends and it reminded all of us how it felt to play quake live. By default it I think leans more into a party game, but with some rule tweaking I think it can be taken pretty seriously
