How to use mouse acceleration?
TL;DR BELOW

I don't have any hours played personally; anything that shows is from a friend playing on my account.

I use a low sensitivity in games (400 CPI, 1.3 sensitivity in l4d2, still experimenting with fine tuning by the 100ths). I need to get a larger mousepad (I currently use an SS QCK standard). Currently, when I go from one end to the other of my pad, I turn 90-95 degrees; effectively, if I double my mousemat side one side to the other would be a 180.

But then again, I asked myself about human limitation of arms (imagine trying to swipe from one end to the other of a desk covering mousepad, you'd be awkward) and was curious about maybe matching a mousepad to the length of my arms or something, if there's some sort of science about that.

The other option is using mouse acceleration. Clearly it's in the game for a reason and some benefit more than others. I want to get into arena shooters but it looks so fast that I'd have an even more ripped arm after a game or two with crazy shoulder fatigue.

How do those who are successful configure m_accel? It's not exactly intuitive. I do fast swipes in counter strike during two times; someone pops around the corner and it's extreme CQB, or when I turn corners or attempt to 180 (two quick swipes, I need a new mouse too because the sensei raw I have fails).

How do I make it so pretty much if I do a fast swipe, I do a 180 with accel versus the 90 that I do with no accel?

TL;DR
I want to configure mouse acceleration in arena shooters so I can still have the sensitivity I'm used to, but have it set up so that I can do 180s consistently.

For me, what you are voicing is why I never thought mouse acceleration was good if you wanted to be competitive. The very nature of mouse acceleration makes it much more unpredictable where your aiming crosshair is going to end up after the flip of a mouse.

I've always fared better finding a sensitivity with no acceleration that just barely lets me do a 180 with the flick of my mouse, and pin point aiming when I move it slowly.

Other people might think differently but that's my two cents.

I've been thinking about that but apparently there are multiple kinds of accel, with linear being the best where you can more or less retain your non-accel sens if it's really low; your huge swipes are typically for movement

The thing about using mouse accel is that it's just a totally different mentality of mousing. Like many people will say, it really is about preference and finding the perfect balance for you.

There are many resources about the specific calculations, and you could start out by visiting Lorfa's guide here: http://www.regurge.at/ql/lorfa/ (just do a seach for cl_mouseaccel). There are also many threads on esreality, reddit, etc. Still, you will need some adjustment period and experimentation.

The way I first configured my mouse accel settings was by paying attention to general movement first. That is, I wanted my basic movement around the map to feel similar to my non-accel setting.

I used calculations to create around 4 "profiles" that produced similar sensitivities when moving at relatively low/moderate speeds. Essentially, they were combinations of lower base sensitivity + higher accel or higher base sensitivity + lower accel. (at 400 dpi, you could try some accel ranging from about 0.1 - 0.4)

During the experimentation phase, I would think about different scenarios and what felt comfortable/natural. There was some adjustment, but I was able to find a nice setting for me that evolved just a bit over time.

In order to do your 180's consistently, you might want to look into using an accel cap. I don't personally use any offset or cap, but some people seem to like using them.

I don't use mouse acceleration not sure I ever have it is kind of annoying it's not natural. So much analysis I have been playing FPS shooters for twenty years and I just fiddle with the slider till it feels right the end. :D

Don't know my cm thing or my sensi value . Am I actually missing out my not übernerding all this stuff? For me its feel and muscle memory, mind and body not configs and measurements but hey it's not like I was one of the top FFA players in Uk :8 :;

I feel it. It's intuitive. Overshooting? reduce sens. Under? increase it and then just play and you find that middle ground.

Before I use mouse accel I need to get a really big pad as I've found that I just really like low sensitivity and the precision it gives. it's alsot he most comforatble and the active nature of the gameplay is most fun.

With your low sens, you could probably use KGB style accel.

He uses 0.1 accel and cl_mouseAccelOffset 5 at 400 CPI. The way this works is: accel generally doesn't kick in unless you are doing a fast turning swipe rather than tracking or flick shots.
