Release it without steamworks like DOOM 3 BFG
QL is a decade old now and it's not exactly a big source of profit for Bethesda, releasing the source code as FOSS would be a good option. Hell, make the Steam version free as in price too, get more people playing.
2. Just using Steamworks APIs that are publicly documented as dependencies is not going to make the code bound to be proprietary.
