I played Quake 3 Arena a while ago and my question is which has better bots, Live or 3 Arena?

I'll be honest, not great on either. Considering how high the player skill is online, even on nightmare difficulty on both games I find it like playing toddlers. On neither game do they move and strafe like a real person, so you end up with a lot of multi kill situations where they've bunched up together and it's not really a challenge. The only thing which is anything remotely like playing online, is that they never miss a shot ha - it's just you've usually got the drop on them.
I prefer bots from Q3... They're kinda dumb in Quake Live (In modes like CTF, Harvester) and you can install custom bots in Q3 (custom high level AI) like 'CPMA bots' (they're LIGHT YEARS superior to default bots and players around there).

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=548884066 tries to improve the QL bots a little but tweaking the current bots is all that can be done as QL does not allow for source code modification.

There are far better bot mods for Q3A that have rewritten code,
SpiterBot was the precursor to bots built into CPMA but it works in regular Q3A without other mods, and as the most recently updated if you are only going to try one I would try that.

The bots in both are extremely useless, even on hardest difficulty. Check out the CPMA bots and things like that. They aren't bad. Good for practicing.
