I urge everyone nostalgic about those classic 90s era shooter days to watch this 'making of' series on the birth of overwatch. Its 3 parts, but this 2nd part I linked especially hits home with the community who remembers the glory of the modding days. The directors of overwatch were deeply vested in Action quake which would then pave the way for Team fortress and Quake 3, and was the main inspiration to making overwatch- an homage to classic fast pace shooters.
I'm not a huge fan of the emerging MOBA genre dominating the competitive industry today, and while Overwatch innovatively draws from those key teamwork elements -One thing is for sure: After playing overwatch for just 5 minutes, you will feel the nostalgic fluidity and fast paced action that made games like Quake so desirable, and entertaining. Don't let the cute designs fool you- Absolutely nothing about this game is an over-thought. It's so tight and one badass game that lives up to everything I loved about Quake.
That being said Pharah/Junkrat for life :D Nadin' kids like its 99'

Perspectives - as always.
I see nothing in that thread but a toxic disenfranchised neck beard trolling for attention. Live your life like this clown, and you will find yourself bitter and alone at 40, finding satisfaction in empty achievements - like being the last of his disbanded friends playing quake.
The dude in the clip looks llike hes enjoying the ♥♥♥♥ out of it though lmao.
Honestly though the 'MOBA' aspect of the game is what influences the teamwork cooperation in a competitive setting. You are encouraged to fulfill a role that works towards the benefit of your team, and in the end is the kind of structure that lacked in quake pubs. Sure in Quake or CS you had that individualistic gratification of destroying people by yourself, but would deteriorate the experience in competitive team environment, and I also found that gratifcation on many levels in overwatch.
I've played CS at a semi-pro competitive level for many years, Quake at high skill bracket for just as long, and typically struggle to find FPS experiences that satiate my desire for involved game mechanics. I tried the DOOM beta, and despite a completely inticing trailer, got bored within 1 hour and exhausted what it had to offer. Overwatch delivered immensely from my perspective!
The speed of overwatch is great. Not as fast as quake, but felt fast like quake, even more so when compared to most modern shooters. This was great IMO.
Phara's rockets did feel a lot like the quake rockets, probably why i took to her so quickly. Just dont try and rocket jump, you will hurt yourself and hardly get any airtime. But flying (with your ability) is so much fun =P
