Thank you very much.
Understood.
I would say if you do want a game like this with a single-player mode, the best one is in the original Unreal Tournament. Quake 3's single player is quite barebones by comparison (it only has DM / Duel matches, the other game modes aren't represented) and Unreal Tournament 2004's campaign is pretty bad IMO (largely because I hate the non-UTClassic balancing in that game).
Been playing UT since 1999 bro, AWESOME game. QIIIA isn't too shabby either and has its own flare; love the railgun. Until they (ever) remaster QIIIA, I'll just stick to the original version then. Thanks for your help.
For $3 it's still a pretty good pickup IMO. Granted, the sale is probably over by now.
QuakeLive:
- better netcode
- better interface and usability
- less need to reconfig
- steam workshop maps
- active duel players
- comfortable demo recording and replays
- modern resolutions work without installing patches
etc. etc. etc.
Quake 3 Arena:
- better moddability and customization
- more availble content (much more maps as many custom maps still never got ported to QL; https://lvlworld.com/ reviews on best of them here)
- easier to use cosmetics (player and weapon skins, custom models)
- huge availability of mods that change gameplay (from Gundam Universe, Quake 3 Rally and Western Quake to CPMA, Quake 3 Fortress and DeFRaG)
- better stuff for singleplayer experience (aside from "tournament" mode, also can install improved bots, and mappers can do campaigns using EntityPlus tools https://www.moddb.com/mods/entityplus )
- also slightly different playerbase (oldschool people who never accepted Steam or QLive)
- and i would say some modes have more life in Q3 rather than in QL (q3's clan arena is more relaxed and CPM physics + fastswitch make it better; also perhaps ctf is more expanded).
