Quake III Arena player here! I NEED YOUR HELP!
Well, hello there, fragger! :steamhappy: The multiplayer aspect of this game is not very important to me... So I don't care much about the "toxic community" or "dead servers" anyway. I really loved playing with and against bots in Quake 3, so... I doubt I will be getting any problems.
I have some questions to ask you, though, from a Quake 3 player to a Quake Live one:

  • Is it possible to play Quake Live on a 64bit (x64) Windows 10 PC?
  • Is it possible to use the "devmap" cheat and at the same time add bots to fight with?
  • Is it possible to switch game modes with "g_gametype" console variable while on "devmap" (developer) mode? (In Quake 3, just for fun, I used to play with cheats in every gametype).

THANKS FOR READING!

Regardless, you should be able to pick any gamemode while choosing maps.

I just realized that Quake Live has the "devmap" command working great, not just in the same way Quake 3 did, though. In QL, it is better, because in spite of "g_gametype" being forced to 0 (for Free For All mode), one could just simply type <devmap> <mapname> <gametype> (without the angle brackets) to play a choosen map, with cheats enabled and with a specific gametype (mode)! Quake Live is indeed a better version of Quake 3 :steamhappy:

Yep! Now that loadouts aren't a thing anymore, Quake Live makes Q3 irrelevant with the exception of mods. I have to say that I miss the Team Arena weapons, though. They don't appear, even in the team modes. :steamsad:

Important to note that-- as far as NA is concerned --the game isn't dead. Toxicity is no higher than other games, and is mostly concentrated in Clan Arena. FFA has at least one active server regularly, and there's Discord servers for setting up duels.

Were those weapons cut from the game or they just don't "spawn" in the maps as you would like?

Because, according to Quake Wiki, the game includes all of Team Arena weapons + the "Heavy Machine Gun".

Yeah... I just wanted to clarify that I really do not care if the community is toxic or not, because, in the end, we all want Quake to frag, not to chat (as a Quake III Arena bot used to say), and more importantly, I tend to play only with bots, so I won't be having any trouble with people, probably 😊

They are technically in, but they don't spawn anywhere, so you have to cheat them in.

So... it's technically a bug :steamsad:
