I just discovered a command "music" which according to http://www.regurge.at/ql/ really plays music, I have full list of mp3 files on my laptop and decided to use these but I can't get it to work.
I noticed that it only allows OGGs and when I put in anything else like "music.mp3" it just adds the ogg extension to it and tells me that it couldn't find the "music.mp3.ogg" file, so I have converted everything to ogg now but the it still can't manage to find any file, even when I give in the full path to the file

Odds are it will not just let you play any file. IF it works, it will probably on work on files placed in either a very specific place, or packed into a pk3 file. That last one is probably the one that is required, and in that case the servers you play on would need that pk3 before it would be accepted.
