texture BILINEAR or TRILINEAR question for high stable fps.
Hello I recently put a new computer together, and was looking to play quake live. I can now achieve 144fps no problem any map ive tried.

these settings give me pause though. it used to be i needed to pick gl_nearest to work 'ok', but now my computer can handle more, will the higher/highest settings make a differnce in quality, for example, more accurate cliking on textures etc, less thinking i clicked one spot, while something right besides it get shot? Or could higher gl_linear_mipmap_linear help for being able to run smoother on wierd textures etc?
GL_NEAREST
GL_LINEAR
GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_NEAREST
GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_LINEAR
GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST (bilinear in the menu)
GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR (default, highest quality, trilinear in menu)

None of them will make a FPS difference in this day and age, especially since QL is a single-threaded cpu chomper.

stick to trilinear (LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR)

trillinear is an old form of rendering now.

thats true but quake is also a old game with a old engine :P

use the aniostropic filtering at 16x.

anisotropic filtering isnt supported by quake

"tweaking" via console is NOT recommended, it makes for a very unstable game.

thats a lie. the console is for the tweaking and adjusting the settings like the cfg or the "normal" settings via gui too. its simply the same and it doesnt make the game and the engine unstable. if something is set wrong u simply can set it back and all is fine again!

if they are not working, or you have FPS issues, then i recommend upgrading hardware.

...or he just can tweak the config to the maximum fps his hardware can do with this engine :P
its his own thing so let him do what he want to. ur no help for him... ur just trolling!

dont trust this guy!

np dude :)
ye trilinear is the usual setting nearly all ppl use in quake bcs its the highest possible texture filter in quake and every graphics board can handle it with ease these days ;)
