Hosting a LAN server
I would like to host a LAN server so that I can play with my brother at home. Any idea on how to do this? I tried setting the server up and selecting LAN but my brother is not able to search for it in the server browser. Thanks!

I don't think a LAN server will ever appear in the server browser. I believe you'll have to connect by IP.

Try using the steam server browser as it has a LAN tab.

At the top of the steam window select View > Servers

Go to LAN tab and on the bottom left select CHANGE FILTERS set that to Quakelive

steam server browser (and lan option in the game) only scan the LAN for a few of the ports and not the default port quake live is set to use. (27960)

If i remember correctly the range is 27015 to 27019 or 27020

Easiest workaround, is either use the steam server browser (View->Servers). But try adding the server to favorites.

Or just use the console command: connect.

That is why you select the game in filters.

All I know is it works perfectly for me as all on the LAN can see the server in the steam browser LAN tab.
