Couple of things:

1. Upgrade your heater as soon as you can.
2. Fill your heater to have a max of 6 fuel.
3. Before Night falls, make sure you 'top off' the fuel level to 6.

If you still can't
keep the temp above 15C
4. Make a secondary Heater, fill to 6 fuel.

As mentioned before, always carry the hatchet and chop up everything.

So, i made two simple heaters because it was cheaper than upgrading it. and a day passes by but i have to pause the game and go to work. when I came back, the second heater that I made was gone

You can't take fuel out of heaters.

Plus even when winter has already ended, it will still be cold for a few days (about 5C) before it eventually becomes warm, so those remaining fuel in your heater

I have 2 upgraded heaters (im a czar in this run) and my average temp is 16-19c . I kinda feel the second heater should do more. I don't think it was a total waste of resources though, just partially.
