Food - Your strategy?
So what do you guys do for food?

Even with Bruno's cooking skills I feel very low on food a week in or so - What's your strategy? Any good places to find food? The High School's food seems to be locked behind saw bars (drat!) and the Supermarket is dangerous (As was the Hotel sniper square...yikes)

Food seems to tbe the hardest part of the game. They eat but are still hungry and never seem to be enough found.

I think food is a huge challenge. I'm almost 2 weeks in, and constantly desperately looking for food. I note that you can build a herb garden (and I guess more than one) and upgrade it to grow vegetables .. and also you can build rat traps (and I guess more than one) so potentially with survivors working the home base you could create a few lovely bowls of rat stew per day ..

I found avoiding the hotel sniper to be pretty easy ... as it says trick is to stay in cover...

How do you drop to two people? they die or can you force then out?

Yeah I was probably just failing hard there - I figured out the mechanics after I was shot the first time. And then the second (killshot) I thought I was hidden behind a... tram? wagon just in front of the hotel. I was pretty salty.

Trade excess medicine for raw food and make level two meals. I have 4 people on day 15 and I keep them on hunger level one unless I have a lot to spare, which I rarely do. Often I have stolen food, but never have I been completely without any at all. I always have 1 to 3 cans in the kitchen for emergencies.

Usually I trade with the guy that shows up every few days. I always have several pills and medicinal herbs to trade for food and other stuff. And it's prolly even better if you have a garden/ distillery/ whatever makes cigarettes, then you can run your own little cartel. Also, the trap cage looks promising, but I haven't built it yet.

As a side note, I think crafting multiple level two meals at a time is bugged... Or maybe the level two meal queues up two level ones? Not sure...

The "Level Two" meal (The one that uses one meat, one veg) creates two meals. Queue up two meals and you create four.

Guys, try the 2-day 1-meal technique - Let your survivors eat one meal every two days (for example, Day 2, Day 4, Day 6 etc), they won`t be very hungry, their status will be only "hungry", and you`ll save a lot of food for later gameplay. Also try catching rats, 2 or 3 traps should be fine for 4 people. Save cans as far as you can, it is better to eat cooked meat then cans, because they are much more expensive - sometimes you will need to trade them for meds. Good luck !

2 traps are limit?
Norbi1156 Nov 15, 2014 @ 5:45am
Ups, didn`t saw that :P. Anyway, 2 traps are usually enough, of course, don`t use cans to catch somethng, it is too expensive

I have a rotation system.
The one who scavenges gets some food instantly then the most hungry of the non sleeping people at the base get food who were guarding it and then the one who was sleeping gets the food last if there is any.

If there isn't any food they will be scavenging first next time.

yeah alkohol is the key. i try to build a water collector on day 1 and try to get alkohol destiller on day 2. alkohol trades for lots of materials so you can focus on sugar, water, meds and food when you scavange. they take less room than wood and materials.
