Scavenging with a hatchet?

I did a small attempt to disassemble the furnitures on my scavenge trips, but it didn't give me the icon to destroy them. Is it possible to use your hatchet on other places than your base to collect wood and firewood and if so then how?

Yes. It has to be wooden furniture though; wardrobes, dressers, chairs, etc. There are plenty of things left in your home that you can't hatchet, you can't hatchet those things anywhere else either. You just bring the hatchet along on your scavenge and the icon should appear next to the looting one when you see that piece of furniture. I wonder if that's it... you need to be in scavenging mode to do it, not combat. If you click on your hatchet thinking to bring it out and chop stuff, you'll enter combat mode and won't see any of the icons.

Just remember that it's loud, so don't do it next to hostiles.
