Solo?
Is it possible to just use one character, kill everyone you meet, steal their stuff, etc or does the game force you to make a group?

I'll say only one thing - Who watches over you in your sleep? ;)

With a very lucky run it may be possible to get enough / the right supplies to be able to make it on your own (although I believe the game mechanics that come into play once your other guys are dead will probably make the lone survivor suicidal), but it's certainly not the point of the game.

Why in the world would you want that as a option? Strengths in numbers bruh

Probably not. He would need to sleep during the day so you wouldn't be able to improve your hideout, and he would suffer debilitating psycological damage throughout.

Not only that, but without guards they'll just loot everything you took home the next night.

It's possible to beat the entire game with just one character in your house. (without using any exploits) Although traditional strats tend to not work. Requires quite a bit of fore-knowledge about the game.

To solo it I'd say you'd have to do the following.

1.Build a bed, stove, and heater ASAP.
2.Clear and find a place to scavange at night, perhaps two if a particular destination gets snowed in, or blocked due to combat.
3.Sleep during the day and go scavange the same place over and over again at night. Take everything you don't want stolen with you, that means ALL FOOD. You shouldn't care about weapons because you won't be fighting anyone or guarding your place.
4.Maybe build a trap or two for extra food.
5. Repeat sleep/scavange, NEVER STAY AT BASE, until the end of the war.

For other game breaking tips, you could store stuff in a "loot" pile in your home, or in your scavanging destination. Don't empty it, and you will be able to use it to keep your stuff.

If you can get the trading location, you can just become a rich baron and never go hungry.

What about killing everyone I meet and taking their food and items.

That would eventually throw your char to depression or even suicide.
