What's the point of rat traps
In my experience, they produce a net +1 raw food every 5 days or so, and you are limited to 2 of them (compared to net +6 veg every 3 days per garden*, or 1000% more). What's the idea behind this imbalance?

*At the cost of a lot of filters because... farners only water their fields with filtered water instead of the rain?

It helps you to build a foodchain. With the garden you will be autonomous, helps a lot

I've been finding meat/canned food on scavenge missions alot more then veg. I'd say the 2 are ment to balance out.

Actualy you get two raw foods from one trap. So you can refuel it with it own meat and still have one for cooking

Rat traps are the most important improvement imo. I had two of them + a veggie garden. All food problems solved :o

That's what I meant by "net +1" - over a period of a few days, it turns one raw food (or one veg via fertilizer, or one canned food) into two raw food.

As such, the most sensible use I found was turning one canned food into 4 cooked meals since our survivors can't cook with canned food

+1 raw food every 5 days is a definite understatement, even if you are using meat as the bait. I almost never wait more then 2 days for the trap to fire, generally bewteen 1 - 2; if it didn't my people would starve to death. Are you checking the trap (ie play zoomed out so you can see, or place it near your main area is). My guess is that with the vege garden you have a timer so you know when to come back and check, the rat trap does not have one and I imagine you are forgetting to check. I do not beleive that there is such a discrepency between our games, unless the game alters the production output based on your situation. If that is true then we can both be correct.

As for the filters I guess it depends what they are filtering out. I don't know what the effects of water polluted by the debris of war and disease would have on vegetables. But given you don't have any problem with vegetables that miraculously grow in a couple of days, I can't see why you would worry about the filters ?

I don't think which bait you use matters at all. Also if you have to ask what is the point of rat traps, I wonder if we are playing the same game.

It totally random. I trapped rat within 2 or 3 days quite often. If you already got the Garden running, it yield a lot of veggie, turn those veggie into food waste material, and use it in the trap instead.

I think the chance of catching something in the traps has changed in the recent update. I get a lot less meat than before.

And I get far more...almost every second day. Depends perhaps on your team, the luck and...who knows :)

traps work fine. collect as much water as u can to make more veg in one go, then use them for traps. also use anton for setting traps and roll cigaretes :D

Wow the rat traps don't have an icon that shows you when it's ready? I've been waiting for ages and the hourglass icon is still going, I thought I would never get any meat. Thanks for this.
