Is there any beneift in helping the neighbors?
Other than losing a character for the whole day and night, and then having to recover them next day by being in bed a large part of that day, what does helping the neighbors do?

Is it just a waste of time? Or based on personal sentiment?

I believe it improves the morale (but I haven't played that much yet)

It depends on the neighbors.

The couple that gives you the vegetables are by far the best ones. They only ask you to join them once after that and helping them yields alcohol that can be used for trade!

The guy that asks for your help in searching the air drop is nice too. Just don't tell the rebels the truth when they show up!

The girl that asks for your help in defending her shelter twice isn't too bad. The third time she visits she gives you items.

The only ones that are lackluster is the sniper victim and those damn kids.

The kids mother will come eventually and give you some coffee, so they're not all bad either. And most characters will feel sad if you don't help them. Tip: If you don't want to give them 2 meds, just make sure you don't have 2 in the cabinet to give them. They'll only ask for one if that's all you have.

Helping neighbours will always result in a boost in morale, and will often have a negative morale effect if you don't help them. And like RainingMetal said, they often give you something to take back as a thank-you.

Coffee's not really helpful or rare though. Other neighbors have far better prizes.

What is the point of morale? What do we really lose if they are sad?
RainingMetal Apr 15, 2015 @ 6:44pm
A survivor won't be able to do anything when morale's extremely low. Contrarywise, if they're content they'll move faster and fight better. Having good morale is also a sign that you'll get the good ending for your survivors.

Yeah, the coffee isn't that great but it's something :)

If morale is bad enough survivors could get depressed or even broken. Then they might do something really bad (like steal all your stuff and run away). It's difficult to win the game if you don't keep morale up.

How many days are there? I'm up to the 30's.
mrsbond Apr 17, 2015 @ 11:45am
It depends on your starting scenario - some of them are shorter than others. The first three generally last around 40-45 days. The winter starts will be shorter as well as some of the other harder scenarios.

If certain characters are depressed for long bouts of time, they may off themselves or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ leave with a quarter of your supplies. These are worst case scenarios, but they do happen.
