All my recent attempts have crashed like this and I've given up playing it in Windows 10 until it is resolved.

Bug happened under Windows 7 and now in Windows 10 too.
Don't get me wrong, I love this game, the game play is superb, soundtrack is nice but I want more freedom, freedom to ALT+TAB and not crash while doing so.
I'm still recommending this game, until I get tired of your ♥♥♥♥ 11 bit studios.
PS. I'm using Windows 8.1 64-bit. Can we get this game in 64-bit instead of the 32-bit one??? PLEASE?!
How does one sned a log of that very instance it happens ?
full screen off -> apply -> fullscreen on -> apply.
After that, i can alt-tab back and forth.
I notice that the program needs some time to do so ( restor the graphics from the black screen), apparently there is something using resurces during that.
The gotcha is I'm running xmonad, which is hardly a common window manager, so your mileage may vary here.
I find the game hangs if I change desktops away from it, however it will *un-hang* if it regains focus from another window on the same desktop with focus-follows-mouse. In my case this means I open up another application on the same desktop as the game, move my focus to that window, move my focus *back* to the game (which will then unhang), and then I maximise the game. I have full-screen mode turned off in the game settings.
I'm guessing the same is looking for some sort of focus even that it's not getting through focus changing from desktop (and possibly alt-tab) changes, but which it is getting through focus-follows-mouse.
Good luck, and I hope this helps!
Thanks for this great hint!
Still, the developers should fix this issue since they earned tons of money with this simple game.
I'm not sure I know how to get that to work on a Windows PC. If I click the minimised game on the task bar, then the entire PC locks up.
Maybe Business? (Work related)
or maybe a trainer? because you hate playing games?
whatever reason. borderless gaming worked. (tip: you gotta set it on windowed type "-windowed" in the mods section. launch parameters.
I finally got around to playing this game. When I first started I had the ALT+TAB issue too. After the first time it happened I had to do the sign-out trick and just remained content that I wouldn't be able to tab out, but when I started the game backup it immediately reacted as if I had hit ALT+TAB. Signed out and started back up and same result.
Now two things I noticed:
1) I couldn't interact with anything on the monitor that the game was playing on. Like if I CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to get the task manager, it was as if the game was continuously trying to put itself as the foremost application. (which is why you have to do the signout trick)
2) When I moved my mouse up to my second monitor, which I had left a browser window open on, I could freely interact with that and anything else on the secondary monitor. As soon as I moved the mouse back to the primary monitor I couldn't do anything again. I would have to ALT+TAB to the browser on the secondary monitor to regain control.
That's when I started to search for dual monitor issues and realized that it wasn't just me that had this issue and dual monitors. I think there was a dev comment that said they had dual monitors and had no issues, but here's the thing. I did the signout trick, then when I logged in I did this.
Went into Display Settings > Multiple Displays > Show only on X (where X is the monitor you want to play on)
I know this is a pain, but once I disabled the second monitor before playing the game I had no issues starting and running the game. However the ALT+TAB still locks things up. I'm sharing this because if disabling my secondary monitor got me past one lockup scenario I feel like there might be something to it. I could be wrong, but on the otherhand maybe this will help anyone else that has dual monitors and is having issues with the game freezing up when they start it. Yes I have the latest GPU drivers for my card.
Random Info:
Different resolutions 1920x1080(secondary) and 1680x1050(primary).
Different ratios 16:9(secondary) and 16:10(primary).
Different connections HDMI(secondary) and one is DVI(primary).
(I'm just grasping at straws here, trying to think about what is different.)
I use headphones for sound but the second monitor(that I don't play on) has speakers that I can use.
I don't know I hope this helps anyone out there. I'm actually loving this game so far, so I would hate for new people to turn away from it because that can't start it up.
