Loot Despawning

So I've been taking all of the loot in areas into my backpack, then unloading into a pile that is generally near the exits. So essentially I store all of the loot for one zone in one big pile. For a while it was working well bc it made multiple runs quick and I could see everything from the zone all at once. However, I did have a pile completely despawn and disappear from the Garage.

Does anyone know why this may happen? Was it perhaps stolen from other bandits somehow or just despawn on its own?

This has been an "issue" since day one. Some people have concluded that its intentional (other scavengers found your stash zomg). However, its completely random. Sometimes you have 40 things in a spot, and its all gone after a single day. Other times your stash will go WEEKS untouched. The inconsistency makes me think its a bug of some kind, and it really sucks. My suggestion is simply to try to completely finish with an area and not leave a stash uncleared for any longer than necessary.

Yeah my stash was at the "Garage" so I looted the entire area except the room the trader generally stands in. This amounted to probably some 80 or so slots worth of items. I checked and the parts were totally gone in every location, even in the 1 room he stands in that I hadnt checked previously. What phreazerburn described is what happened to me.
I suppose Ill just limit stashing in this manner from now on.
Btw, any idea on if there will be a patch to fix this?

This happened to me yesteday at the Garage too, seeing as everywhere was locked in war, my guys just slowly died.

So I've played this game a lot. And it never happened to me until after patch 2.2.1. Now it's happening pretty often. I've filed a few bugreports onnit but as mentioned above, might also be intentional. Which sucks :P

I noticed, that when starting winter, the piles have less loot and when the winter ends, you can find more loot at the pile. Maybe this could be an option for disappearing the loot.

In the winter, some loot piles (particularly ones outside the actual building) will disappear. You can still loot them, however your scavenger will say that there is only trash. A similar thing happens when the radio says that supplies are scarce and people are becoming scavengers.

I usually choose a cabinet or drawers to put all of the loots. I never put them in a pile on the ground or something like that, and I have no problem with these so far.
