So, stealing from psychopaths is wrong?
There's tons of private property containers in the hotel where the three psychopaths were holding someone hostage in a locked room. How in the world is it considered stealing from these people, but not from other deranged people?

You won't lose happiness from stealing from bad people. Or killing them. Usually anyways.

But they're private property containers. Don't those automatically make someone depressed from taking from them?

No, it depends on who you are stealing from. It just means that *IF* someone wasn't planning on attacking you, they will when you go into their property. I killed the psychopaths at the warehouse and didn't get any sadness (in fact, my survivors were like GOOD, GLAD WE KILLED THOSE PSYCHOS!). I also took all of their stuff, because half the warehouse is considered their property. Still, no sadness.

The "psychos" are in the warehouse, not the hotel. There's just an old man on his own in the hotel who wont attack you...

There's different things that can happen in different places. You can have either three psychos, some people willing to trade or the old man in the hotel.

It's not always the same.

I'm pretty sure it's the desensitizing of killing human beings that are making them sad. But rescuing the man trapped in the room should counter-act that. Even when you kill bad guys sometimes they get all sad because they killed a human being. Blame it on RNG.

It's a common bug. This happens in locations where it's possible to encounter innocent inhabitants, but you face bandits instead. The Warehouse, Brothel, Military Outpost, and Construction Site are examples that are exempt from this bug.
