But i'd have to disagree on the "Random events that screw you over" part. it sounds like if you get said random event, you basically lose at the moment, and if you have bad luck like me, it would happen to you EVERY play through.
Instead, how about you could get raided during the day? The less you patch up the base, the more places people could enter, and you're not told about it, so you could randomly enter a room and see a guy with a gun looting through your stuff. THAT would make it terrifying.
Or how about something like, during the day again, a building next to you is bombed, so people come running to your base for help, and you have the options to give them supplies, take them in, turn them away, ect.
This easiest way to win this game is
1. clean out your base on day 1
2. survive until the military outpost is unlocked
3. trade for a shotgun and kill everyone in the base
4. the base has enough stuff to keep you alive if you trade with the garage or the hospital until day 32.
If by crime you mean getting your base raided, it happens several times each playthrough, even a couple times after fully boarding up my house.
Oh, and the war ends randomly. My first playthourgh, my last guy died on day 42- a few days earlier the radio claimed the ceasefire was coming in a month. My second it ended on day 36, and another ended on day 45.
Your idea and mine can be tightly linked. What I mean by a random even that screw you over is not like a bomb in your house and instakill your full crew. It'd be like.. you're raiding at night a place you think desert, and boom 5 army guys just pop in the place, looking to kill anyone they see.
Or yes, ennemy raidings during the day would be AMAZINGLY fun ! As well as a random hostile encounter when you open the door as another person suggested ^
Are you serious? Clear the whole military outpost with nothing then a shotgun!?
Let's remember this is a game yes?
Of course finding key mechanics to survive is natural, but after the second playthrough? Seriously?
Furthermore, I'm not just blasting 'dis wrong', I'm giving ideas :)
Fine. Seem you really not appreciate what they try to represent to you.
