How to save the supermarket girl

I went there with Marko and a knife to see if I could save her. Maybe sneak up behind the guard while he is talking to her. I figured if Marko died I would just start over as I've already been through one complete play through and this incident leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

So when they are still in the supermarket and he is talking to her I creep to the door and open it. What happens is you end up distracting him from the girl and she starts sprinting for the exit. I keep backing up from the guard until the girl passes me and then I sprint for the exit as well. Girl gets saved and everyone talks about what a hero Marko is. It's quite the morale boost. Next time going to the supermarket the lady is there who talks about how she knows the girl, etc. No guard in sight.

I couldn't sneak up on him to stab him in the back... he noticed me. I knew if I attacked him he would shoot me with his assault rifle and I was going to attack him anyway, but then I saw the girl sprint away and decided to run also.

It's easy to kill him. Wait til after he finishes talking to the girl, and walks towards her. You can kill him without losing any health that way.

It is stupid not to kill him because he drops a free fully working AK-47... The most expensive item in-game, as well as a valuable weapon. You won't even have to upgrade your metal workshop anymore.

dont run when you are approaching him just go sneaky from behind. That ak47 is highly valuable for any trader. You must get it!!!

the thing that worked quite well was, i barged in, ran past him, and only then i noticed i ran too far, by then, he got the gun up and i died.........

didnt say it went great, but it surely could have gone worse

You don't need to fight him at all. Just open the door. That will interupt him and allow the girl, and yourself, to run to the exit.

My first run to the supermarket came across 3 other looters. Which are friendly.

2 male, 1 female. They left shortly after browsing through the place.
I did not come across any soldier / victims.

I revisited the place 2 more times after. Nothing happened.
Is this a random chance? Or it requires you have a party of 3 or less.
Since I've a party of 4.

Yeah, saving her is a huge thing, but getting the AK and knocking the sumbitch down is more valuable. Also, getting the AK on day 3 is a "get out of raids free" card for the first 20 nights provided you have enough ammo.

Also, the supermarket is a coin flip. At the beginning of each game, it is decided whether you encounter the 3 looters (who are armed to the teeth) or the drunk soldier and the girl. Once you have triggered one of the two, the other doesn't happen afterwards anymore. Only if you start a new game.

Gotta wait until he advances on the girl, he will not notice you until well he's been stabbed.

I'm watching a russian streaming the game right now. He just killed the soldier by sneaking up to him with a hatchet he was planning on using to chop up furniture at the supermarket into wood for his furnace.

Update: First hit was a sneak attack and got him down to a thin slice of health, soldier countered twice, then soldier put his hands up. The russian guy killed the soldier and grabbed his gun. Stream is ReveeTv.
