[TECH HELP] Invalid format on my LG TV monitor
Hello everyone,

So whenever I launch the game, the screen simply goes black as if going into full screen and then there's just a little "Invalid Format" popup that hops around the screen.

I've googled a fair bit and didn't find anything on this game specifically, but the same issue with other people using Tv monitors for their games. I've tried setting launch options to -window or -windowed and that doesn't work. I've also tried looking for config or .ini files in the game's folder and didn't find anything.

I hope that's enough information, I'd appreciate some help :)

The game has a problem with certain resolutions and refresh rates - A few of us have already made similar threads and bug reports on the issue.

From this page
http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/This_War_of_Mine

Replace a config file
Download and extract this config file.
Replace your current config file with a newly downloaded one (See Configuration file location).
Do not enable the fullscreen mode, instead use Borderless Gaming.

(Essentially you'll be replacing the default config file with one that has a very low resolution to be able to launch the game and change your settings to what works with your monitor)

Feel free to reply if you get stuck or are unsure of anything - I'll subscribe to the thread.

Good to hear - At least people can use this workaround temporarily until the devs get a fix in :)

pro tip just because your tv can be hooked up to your pc does not make it a monitor (technicaly it does but thats not the point) it has a completely different resolution than a purpose made monitor. you will find that its resolution is incompatable with most well..... everything. i would honestly suggest (on top of the other fix) that you buy a new purpose made monitor. you can find them pretty cheap at tigerdirect. and other outlets/sites but i like tigerdirect.

Ehh... In this day and age it pretty much does because of HDMI pushing the 720P and 1080P standards at 60hz.

But of course lower resolutions and odd refresh rates can cause issues - But people with ""REAL"" PC Monitors are having those already with the game. ;)

oddly alot still have odd resolution, refresh and cant fit some aspect ratios proper. i know there are exceptions but those cost more than most (sane/smart) people will pay. one really would think that they would be almost identical by now but they really arent. shop around for tvs. there are few (reasonably priced) that can truly double as a monitor. even the 32" ones are super expensive. and i doubt any of us here can afford a big one.
but i do give you that some are very close. but imo not close enough to be convenient.

Hmm? My Samsung 36" Television runs 1080P just fine (And no - It wasn't expensive at all. Just your ordinary private market television with HDMI connectors)

I have a NAS computer set up to it as the primary monitor for Netflix and such. No problem at all - In my opinion you're making a chicken out of ten feathers for no reason.
