TWOF is a severly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up game, it's what a zombie survival game would be without zombies. The severe lack of hope, those fleeting moments of joy, tense situations, and barely scraping by day by day. But then you realize that places with civil unrest or places that are active warzones do exist. These refugees go through this day by day. So the game is effective in it's message.
In the game standpoint though, I'd say it's what a "2D" version of Zombie Diaries, State of Decay, and Papers, Please would be like. There's crafting, base manegement, and randomly generated survivors that populate the world. Not to mention you have to pray to RNGJesus to not get multilated by bandits or rebels. So all and all, fun game with an effective message.
