Is this as evocative as Valiant Hearts?
This year we have two "anti-war" games. VH and TWOF. Is TWOF similar to VH in the way it tries to convey its message? Or better?

I haven't played VH (though thanks for reminding me it exists- probably gonna go ahead and buy it right now), but this game does a damn good job of conveying its message. It's astoundingly harsh and dark, which is something I really enjoy. I will say, though, if you're not very good with images of suicide or self harm, some of the images at some points of the game may disturb you. That said, it really does a damn good job of not taking anything lightly. You play it, you think "Wow this is dark, sucks for these characters", and then you remember in some part of your mind that this stuff actually happens, and it can make you think. Or if you're like me you play it until about 1 AM then go and post on the Steam discussion forums.

VH was a good attempt, but it became to light hearted in most of it's gameplay and story. Turning from a grim outlook on war and how it tears people apart, to fighting some fat mustache twirling german in a zepplin.

TWOF is a severly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up game, it's what a zombie survival game would be without zombies. The severe lack of hope, those fleeting moments of joy, tense situations, and barely scraping by day by day. But then you realize that places with civil unrest or places that are active warzones do exist. These refugees go through this day by day. So the game is effective in it's message.

In the game standpoint though, I'd say it's what a "2D" version of Zombie Diaries, State of Decay, and Papers, Please would be like. There's crafting, base manegement, and randomly generated survivors that populate the world. Not to mention you have to pray to RNGJesus to not get multilated by bandits or rebels. So all and all, fun game with an effective message.
