How to kill the Supermarket soldier

I've noticed a lot of people have trouble with this guy, or wind up getting seriously injured, when really you don't have too.

I'm sure others have found out this as well, but have probably not desired to share it, so here it is,

#1: Use lengthy weapons. I used a shovel. You can use anything you can get a decent reach with so you can attack earlier.

#2: Timing. The best timing is after he hits the girl twice with the butt of his gun. By then he will be preoccupied with the girl, she will not scream when you enter, and you get the opportunity for a sneak attack for extra damage.

#3: Dont rush in. This is the biggest mistake, only rush when have the opportunity to sneak attack him.


These should work and minimize your injuries. If you did all correct, you would have saved the girl, taken no damage, and killed the soldier.

I didn't sneak. You don't need to sneak. timing for the hits + reach is enough.

Is reach actually a thing in combat? I always just assumed that whoever strikes is random

In my experiences the closer he is to the door, the better. He does not immediately turn around (in the times I have encountered him, he has always stalled for a moment before he does.) Generally I equip my weapon, open the door, wait for the target to go orange, and say goodnight. It has not failed me thus far.

Your method sounds admittedly safer, though. It also removes any shadow of a doubt that this dude is a dirtbag and deserves that holy shovel of righteousness across the back of his head.

Ive tried this several times. I find that it you have any weapon at all as soon as he says something along the lines of "lets go dine and have some fun" I burst through the door and because hes so close you can hit him before he shoots. Then hit him a second time, he hits you once in melee, then you hit him again and hes usually down, even with a crowbar.

I agree that the best time to kill him is when he's just hit the girl with his gun; his attention is completely on her and he won't hear you coming. A one-hit backstab character is best, otherwise be careful not to stab the girl when you go for your second hit. Two hits and he's dead, anyway.

PS Hatchet is a good weapon to use, as there are a few items in the supermarket which can be chopped for firewood afterwards.

I just killed him when he hit the girl with his gun, but I used a knife. It was pretty easy.

Which weapon is best to use depends on the character who uses it.
For instance, Roman can use pretty much anything to kill the soldier, while Arica has to use a knife.
Apart from that, you don't even have to wait until he hit the girl with the butt of his gun - due to Arica being able to sneak quietly you can enter as soon as he moves one or two steps towards the girl, he won't hear Arica and the girl won't notice her either, but you still have to be quick and do a quick back-stab.
When playing slow characters like Boris, though, you do need to wait until he is completely focused on the girl.
In my experience Arica or Roman are the best characters to do this - I have done this scenario quite a lot ;)

If you have Arica or Roman you can insta kill him if you rush up to him as quickly as possible.
